This was the first Goth compilation I ever bought - I was at a little used record place in Boston and was drawn to it. I've used it for my own compilations and as a teaching tool to learn about the Dark at Heart. Excellent choice.

Well I bought what I though was this CD in 1998. But what the CD shop imported for me was Gothic Rock vol.2 . For some reason, the one has almoust all the song the other one has. But I wanted the CD for Midnight Configuration - No Limit. Now after 6 years 'n found the one I was looking for in the firs place. Love the older Gothic songs. I'm still waiting for my order...

This has got to be the number one greatest gothic compilation I have ever heard. Rather than sticking really bad darkwave bands on a really bad compilation, they stuck amazing mind bending music on here. This is goth to a "T"
Psychological, is another way to put this. At least in the sense of artistic imagery in the mind of an efeminent artist. I highly recomend this to both new kindergoths (god knows they need to stop M.M) and the elder goths (who need to losen up a little towards the younger generations).

I have no idea what techno CD these people are reviewing, but it is definately not this one. Almost every song on this compilation is standard fare on most other compilations. If you listen to Nazarene, Walking on your Hands, Pagan Love Song, Ignore the Machine, Snake Dance, Thalia, Witches, or Spiritual Cramp and you think they are techno, then you've got something wrong with your head. There are several songs with a 'techno' flavour, absolutely, but they are still quite goth. What makes the genre so great is that it's not brutally standardized, like many others are. There is great diversity in goth music, and this covers most of that diversity, though not quite all, unfortunately.

This is a OK comp of older Goth bands, ... but its a good comp to own if your curious about some of the older bands.

As a DJ I find the following tracks useful:
Bauhaus - Dark Entries
Southern Death Cult - Moya (you might know them as the Cult)
Gene Loves Jezebel - Shaving My Neck
Tones On Tail - Burning Skies
Sex Gang Children - Dieche (one of the better songs on here)
Christian Death - This Is Heresy

Referring to your comment on Switchblade Symphony, the song Mother is found on "The Black Bible", a 4-disc compilation of goth and industrial music. Most of the songs on there are unreleased, rare mixes, b-sides, or anything else that makes a track hard to find. I suggest anyone with an ear for Goth and related styles, check this set out!

... but I've only listened to it a couple of times in the 4 months I've owned it.
It was the 3rd or 4th CD I got that has 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' on it (that starts to get pretty tedious after a while). And none of the other songs really appealed to me.

Desmo Donte is THE band to listen to on this cd. The lead singer, Riccardo has a beautiful voice that haunts deep to your innermost soul...."Into the Sun" still lingers in my mind....good job Desmo Donte...and Riccardo :)

I got this 3-cd set for christmas about a decade ago. I've been listening to it recently and I still think its brilliant!

What IS goth, though? There are many songs on these CDs that can be lumped into other genres. Labelling music is not my point-- I'm saying that to the layman (non-goth or person not familiar with the vast, varying genre), this is still an enjoyable collection of danceable, rocking, melodious, beautiful, sad, weird and/or strange music! Dont let the word "goth" scare you away. Its not a collection of songs describing eating monkey brains or blood rituals.

I rated this item FIVE stars. You won't hear Marilyn Manson or the Cure here. These bands are mostly obscure (in the US, as far as I know, anyway) and that lends ... Read More:
