"Chelsea hotel" by Lloyd Cole may very well be the worst cover in history. What madness would provoke someone to turn this great song into an upbeat softrock abortion? I love the drumming especially, wow, it makes me want to drive screwdrivers into my ears. And how it falls off after the chorus, So dramatic! -- like the buildup of a cheap soap opera before a commercial for douches. Total garbage. There are few greater crimes than taking something great and pointlessly remaking it into something awful. Stop me before I listen to that awesome harmonic solo again!

This compilation is really odd, 3 stars only because I really like the Meat Beat Manifesto cover.

Have been a huge fan of DM since the 80's, own all their stuff with the exception of a few early singles, and I would consider them and Radiohead to be my favorite bands.

All in all, good choices for songs to cover, but... Gonna break it down by track:

1) Smashing Pumpkins - Never Let Me Down Again, is a decent acoustic version of the song, though this song has so much rock potential I would have like to have seen Billy take it another direction.

2) God Lives Underwater - Fly on the Windscreen, is tolerable, but other than the vocals this doesn't really sound like GLU, nor like DM. I would have thought ... Read More:

OMG! Very nice combination of artists. Soul Asylum, Pearl Jam,...!!! When I was listening this album I could almost feel that mug and trees atmospheer from Louisiana!! I love that album.

.. but I'll try to make a few, and I mean a few, comments. I bought this CD solely for the updated version of "Wichita Lineman" with Glen Campbell, Michelle Shocked, and the Texas Tornados (Freddy Fender). Now I know why it was listed for $4.99 and the used CD I received was virtually brand new. Because I can see this first time I listened to the CD will be just like that of the previous owners' -- the LAST!

I love the Glen Campbell cut. I would suggest for almost all of the rest of this CD you need to always have a large bucket with you .. it will leave you with the dry heaves! I gave it two stars for the two good cuts on it. The second would be Cassandra Wilson's "The Good Life," although I can safely say that I won't likely be cueing that one up again ... Read More:

Man, what's with all the 4 and 3 star reviews, cats? When you're looking for good RETRO SWING, you have to wade through a lot of mediocre albums. This is one of the best RETRO SWING samplers you can find. Perfect for a swing party because every cut just smokes. THIS IS FIVE STARS, TRUST ME.

Buy it used from an Amazon Seller.

What happened to most of these guys? BRING BACK RETRO SWING!! This craze died out way too soon.

Most compilations are dodgy affairs, and benefit/charity releases are especially guilty, but this sneak hit in the "Red Hot + ___" series of AIDS-benefit/awareness releases was easily the best of the bunch, and presents a surprisingly freethinking travelogue of the rock underground, circa '94, just as that underground was cruising into mainstream consciousness.

The high points here are many - American Music Club and Pavement contribute songs that rank among their best, and several artists present were right on the brink of major breakthroughs: Sarah MacLachlan (who had been kicking around Halifax since the late 80s, briefly in the industrial group Manufacture), and Soundgarden (who first surfaced on the SST label in the mid-80s). KCRW: Sounds Eclectic Too

This is an amazing collection of live studio music. The variety of songs and artists is wonderful, it will be hard to wear this out with such different styles of music on this cd. This station and KGSR out of Austin, Tx, do some of the best (if not the best) live compilation cd's that I know of. The bare bones version of Coldplay's Yellow is just amazingly soulful....the Dido contribution is a real surprise too, these are just two of the highlights, but the whole thing is so very good...buy, listen, and enjoy.

The Family Values Tour '98

The ice cube, korn sets are worth the price alone to buy this family value cd. Orgy does a good job, Rammstein devlivers on their hit DU Hast. Limp Bizkit's version of Jump around is so damm funny you can't help to laugh at the band. If you love Korn and Ice cube buy this cd.
