Back in the late 90's they promoted this album ALL THE TIME while I was watching WWE wrestling (called WWF back then). It eventually got to the point where I simply HAD to buy the thing to see what the big deal was.
Unfortunately, while it was really appealing to me at first, it really began to lose its charm as the years past, as I began to find out the hit songs weren't the ONLY things these bands should be remembered for. In fact, these songs seriously aren't as good as many of the songs you'd find on any one of the Ratt, Quiet Riot, or Poison albums. Why should we remember *just* the hits? We shouldn't.
Furthermore, artists like Alice Cooper and Judas Priest shouldn't be on here in the first place, because ... Read More:

First of all, I am NOT usually a fan of ballads, especially discs that gather a variety of ballads and stick them all in one place. To me, that's WAY too much. My head can only absorb a couple ballads at a time, and more often than not, I need a few rockers placed between each of the ballads to change the mood.
With that said, I love Monster Ballads. Sometimes we can't explain why we love the things we love- we just do! This is clearly an example of that.
Some of these songs have been played a lot when they were first released, such as "Almost Paradise", "More Than Words", and "When I'm With You". Other songs have been played more as the years have gone by, such as "Heaven", "Is This Love?", and "Wind of Change" (my ... Read More:

Normally I don't care for tributes. Who wants to hear other people perform your favorite band's material in a grossly subpar manner? I'm going to make an exception here. This isn't a collection of has beens and never weres, this is Black Sabbaths' peers and contempories trying their damndest to pay tribute to the grand daddy's of metal. Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Rob Zombie, Dave Mustaine, there all here. These songs all rock heavy and hard and each musician and vocalist has added something special to the chosen song. I bought this album back in 1994 and it remains one of my favorite CDs in my collection. Check out the absolutly CRUNCHING versions of "Symptom of the Universe", the "Wizard", and "Children of the Grave"...

The music selections may not be the best representations of the genre; I guess a REAL fan would know by the titles listed, or would be enough of a fan to like them from the start.
The set came in a box that was made very well, of a strong cardboard (like particle board or wood panelling) and made to look like an old time radio. But being that it is about the size of a shoebox, and only holds the 4 CD set, it takes a LOT of room for just 4 CD's, so I do not use it.

I really like the Dee Snider solo track on here, along with most other songs, with few exceptions. Inconclusion (Dee Snider solo track) is great, and is a really good intro to the disk (and the movie, too)...
Not so much with Crisis' version of "Captain Howdy" but I'm a TS fan, so I think the original would have been better. The rest of the tunes are well worth listening to if this is your type of movie. Pick it up if you can find it, and hopefully we'll get to see Strangeland 2 in our lifetimes!

Granted, 80's Metal may be a slightly misleading title, but this album does offer up a nice helping of hair metal and hard rock tunes. It features great songs like "Cum On Feel The Noize" and "Rock Me," but it also has some lesser known tunes from bands that didn't get the airplay that bands like Poison and the Scorpions (who's "Talk Dirty To Me" and "Blackout" are on this album, respectively). Bands like Rainbow, Accept, and Y&T, didn't make it into the radio rotation as much as Slaughter and White Lion, but they all put out some excellent songs. Other bands featured include Tora Tora, Winger, White Lion, Enuff Z'Nuff, L.A. Guns, Extreme, Mr. Big and Britney Fox.
Standout tunes include Lita Ford's "Kiss Me Deadly," Queensryche's "Eyes Of A Stranger," ... Read More:

As with some other reviewers, I see inconsistency with this "Monsters" series of CD's. Personally, I like some of the softer songs on this disk and that's why I bought it (heat of the moment, died in your arms). I really like 'the warrior' as well, and I think most would categorize that one as a hard rock song. When you take a hard look at this series of "Monster" CD's you gotta wonder what "Monster" even refers to. Is it the sales volume? the hard rock sound? what? What makes something "monster" rock? It really seems that they just put their favorites on some CD's and labeled them "monster" because it sounds cool! The problem is that there is no real theme here, particularly with volume 2.

The pro's : 1 ) The band lineup rocks.Hardly any weak tracks here. The SMashup song wasn't to my liking, but that apart, the other songs slay.Arch Enemy,Opeth and LOG are the highlights.Even the mighty Megadeth look slightly jaded after such strong acts. 2 ) The sound rocks - As the other reviewer put it,its sooo much better than the 1st DVD.You feel like the Marshall stacks are all around you.
The Con's : 1 ) Why is there no Subwoofer bitstream signal. This makes this a 5.0 DVD instead of a 5.1.Though the sound quality is awesome, they could have utilised the provison to add some more bass or double bass rumble. There's no such thing as too much double bass esp when you have Daniel Erlandson and Chris Adler on the DVD.
2 )Majority of the extra's are pretty much ... Read More:
