Ok no joke I am a fan of System Of A Down and totally support what they are doing with these side projects and really opened this album up with open arms and an open mind. There are songs that have System of A Down like sound in it but the band really should have spent more time developing their own sound more. Some tracks felt very repetitive especially lyrically Darren seems to just repeat certain lyrics a lot towards the end of the track. It almost seemed as if they couldn't figure out a way to wind down their tracks. There were three tracks though that I can listen to without pressing forward on my cd player. I absolutely love Tool but I somewhat regret buying this LP. The light weight of the vinyl leaves me unsatisfied. Also, the labels look like they were applied by a three year old. The labels were sloppily pressed into the record, cut/torn and don't even feature any artwork (a little boring to look at).

The musical aspects of Ænima and the ritual "file under exercise**" have already been well-covered in the other reviews here. I'll cover an angle that I have never before read about this CD.

When mixing a record, it is common practice to bring in recordings of other songs, sounds, or whatever to use as references and / or "ear-cleaners".

This CD has become (for me at least) a Golden-Standard. The sound on it is SO well-produced that it serves as landmark; it not only sets a standard against which other works are measured, it is also like a lighthouse for those mixing new works. It helps one maintain or regain one's bearings in frequency-space.

This is not music, its just a bunch of talking, ranting, noise, ect...you get the picture. I change the station on the radio every time Serj's or SOAD's complete and utter garbage comes on. One of the lamest excuse for music in the history of rock.

If you want to go out and buy a cd that hits the radio friendly highlights from Rush, then you can't go wrong with "The Spirit of Radio", a compilation which spans 1974-1987. It's a great way to have one disc you can pop in your player and have a good time with Rush, and can easily be considered a great starting point to any of you who have not heard Rush. From an experienced fan, I'd say the disc is definitely representative of their work, but leaves alot left to be explored. I understand that they went with the radio friendly edits, ie. the excerpt from "2112", and all we get from "Hemispheres" is "The Trees", completely skipping over the pomp and grandeur of the title track.
