This album is much more polished than the Black Keys older stuff. I love their old raw sound. This album is better produced and sounds like it would have wider appeal. They could only take that old formula so far. It's good to hear them trying something new and doing it well.

Lyfe Jennings isn't only a talented singer-songwriter, he is also a guitarist, pianist, and bassist. Lyfe branched out and worked with various different producers to help make a fresh new sound for this album, and it worked out well. The album includes collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Wyclef Jean and T.I. The standout among these collaborations is "You Think You've Got It Bad," the Wyclef collaboration. The song has a Caribbean vibe, making it great chill music with lyrics that can make you think. Lyfe and Wyclef sound great singing together on this track. Other highlights on the album are "Midnight Train," and the second single, "Never Never Land." I listen to this album practically everyday, I like all the songs on the albums for various reasons. The cd is a plethora of reggae/dancehall hits to soulful R&B love ballads. Usually, especially nowadays, more attention is put into the production of the track rather than the lyrics but careful attention has been paid to both on this album. One can tell that Estelle is singing from the heart about tricky relationship situations, obtaining self-confidence, and how to fight through life's struggles. Each song is infused with a message, even if it's a playful one (i.e. on "American Boy" "..don't like his baggy jeans but I might like what's underneath them") I really dig this album and wish her all the success. New Amerykah, Pt. 1: 4th World War

I like this album. Most of the songs were good, not mind blowers like some that she has had in the past. I really like 4 songs on the album, the rest are just ok. My favorite Badu album is Mama's Gun.

I think that Erykah took her leanings to be more experimental and merged them with what her traditional (Baduizm) fans would like to hear. But I say she should follow her inclinations and see where they lead. I did not like every song on the album, but I don't have that expectation. If artist don't change and test the market then they will never grow. Instead of people complaining that her album is not the "same Erykah"... they will compain that it's the "same old Erykah". Artist have to complete a project and then they have to sing the same songs ... Read More:

I'm mad at Chris for this one. More garbage right along w/ Danity Kane!! man...I swear...the only songs that sound like anything are the ones that have been overplayed on the radio--and I don't even like those!! See...he was spending too much dang on time making duets w/ Rhianna and Jordin...this CD really isn't good, no depth, no cute little tracks---back to the recording studio he goes.
