Others have amply covered the virtues of this album. The songs are good, but what really sets it apart is Bebo and Cigalla's phrasing. They're just brilliant. I have tried to remove the disk from the CD player, so far without success.

THIS IS A GREAT CD OF MUSIC FROM ORCHESTRA BAOBAB, A FAMOUS BAND IN SENEGAL, WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 1982, BUT THIS 2 CD SET INCLUDES MORE SONGS (SIX OF THEM)THAN THE ORIGINAL ALBUM CONTAINED. THE SONGS BLEND WEST AFRICAN, LATIN, AND JAZZ SOUNDS TOGETHER AND IT WORKS REALLY WELL. VERY LIGHT, BREEZY AND MELODIOUS SONGS, SUNG IN THE WOLOF OR ELSE IN THE MANDINKA LANGUAGE. I have about 50 Putumayo compilations in my collection and this CD is absolutely the best of the entire lot. There is not a bad track on the disc. It is the epitome of feel-good music, highly listenable and danceable. While every song is outstanding, the favorite track in my household is #8 Kanpe Sou Yon Bit. Do we know what it means? Not a clue; but if you really want to check it out, the liner notes in all Putumayo compilations are informative and comprehensive. Whether you're a casual fan of world music or you want to add to a growing collection, French Caribbean is a wise purchase. Highly recommended.

I think many of these reveiws are very subjective, however I hope this is a fair reveiw, that's my intention.
Ricardo Lemvo is a breath of fresh air in music, his music is so interesting because, although it is obviously Salsa, his African background, seeps through in both his singing and also the content of the music.
He really brings together a wonderful marriage of Salsa, and African music. This is particularly interesting because in the Congo he would have been brought up in a style of music called La Rumba Congolaise, which was heavily South American flavoured, and it is fascinating that he is now exporting part of this 'Rumba' back into South American music !

This album 6 years in the making, 50 musicians deep, is electric exciting and truly a treasure. Juan De marcos, truly must have enjoyed creating this treat for Cuban music lovers world wide. From Tirso Duartes searing Timba sounds to Leo Veras Soulful son, there is no "skipping" songs on this CD. Enjoy

Se mantiene el timbre del Son Cubano intacto pero en algunas de sus canciones la letra haciendo alegorias a la dichosa revolucion extravia un poco la excelente calidad del Disco.
