I like Lila Downs and I have all her previous CDs. This new release, from its booklet to the orchestration seems to be directed at young listeners (at heart or otherwise !). There are neither any ground-breaking tunes nor complete failures. Her "protest" style surfaces here and there. All in all, Paul Cohen and his friends perform quite nicely (even better than before) and Lila Downs sings perfectly as always. The reason for my 4 stars instead of 5 is this: They (Downs & Cohen & friends) did not go further and instead chose to play in the safe ground. No experimentations here, no extraordinary vocals, no "wow"! Still, this is a fine album for fans and Latin lovers.

LODVG is back, and what a come back, the album is excellent, in short words: Detailed production, beautiful vocals and meaningful messages that generate feelings. Having followed their work for years, I think this album goes another step forward in a road of creative growth. Amaia was a very important part of the group, we all hope she is going to have a successful solo career, but I'm very satisfied with Leire's selection. To a concept that being authentic has been proven dynamic, she brings a current of fresh air, but effortless fits into the aesthetics already set, and shows a slightly different angle of the creative process result . My money was worth every penny, I've been playing it non-stop since i bought it. Great songs with lyrics that have ... Read More:

There are so many reviews on this recording, but many miss some important points. Yes, this music can be appreciated on purely musical merits.. it's really very good and it grows on you. But it's brilliance lies in his ability to use his own 'foreign-ness' (he's French, singing in Spanish mostly) to express the alienation and dispair of the illegal immigrant in Europe-- that illegal immigrant symbolizing the angst of any modern individual who is paying attention to what is happening in our world. Manu Chao's often over-enunciated and simplistic Spanish mimics the immigrant who speaks Spanish as an acquired language: the Africans and Arabs that sneak into Spain and other countries to find work, to find a future... he even sings slightly off-key and off ...

I heard this album a few months ago on the inflight entertainment of a long flight I was on. I'd heard most of what else was on display and wanted something new. Well, first thing I decided on listening to it was that I was going to get every other album of his. It is fantastic!
Manu Chao is of French/Spanish origin, and sings in both languages, sometimes in English also. His music is generally upbeat, party music with influences of Punk, Ska, and even Polka, and political lyrical undertones. "La Radiolina" is Italian for small radio.
Opening is the rousing Polka tinged "13 dias". "Tristeza Maleza" is a bouncy rocker with electronic flourishes and lyrics that mention George Bush (I have a hunch it's not too flattering, but it's sung ... Read More:

I went to 2 of Mana's concerts in Houston. Both times were just electric. While the video put me in the same atmosphere, I feel the song choice could have been a little better. Much of the album reminded me too much of the Mana en vivo album with much of the song selection coming from that album (el rey, vivir sin aire, rayando el sol, and donde jugaran los ninos (loved that one though)). I do wish they had a couple of Alex songs from the Amar es Combatir album as well as other big hits. Maybe even show the Alex solo from PR. If you didnt go to the concert and bought this DVD you're totally missing out on some of the best stuff. If they came out with a part 2 with some of the other songs, I know it would be better than part one. Even the Accesso Total had a better ... Read More:

I had heard "Limon y Sal", the song, a long time ago and loved it. When I first listened to the CD I was surprised to hear 3 other songs I recognized from the radio. I know very little Spanish, but with the lyrics included, I can sing along. It's fun to listen to with catchy tunes!

I have liked Mana for years, but never really got into them as much as I have recently. I started downloading entire albums recently (rather than piecemeal via p2p) and this one does not disappoint. It contains one of my favorites, "Labios Compartidos", as well as several other awesome songs in true Mana fashion. While this is not my favorite album (that would be Cuando Los Angeles Lloran), it is great nonetheless and a must for any Mana fan. Even if you are just interested in Spanish rock, this is a good album to have. And for less than $10 to download, it's not too big of a risk.

This is kind of a middle of the road effort from Jaguares. Certainly, there aren't all the exciting Adrian Belew guitar solos that livened up their last album. But singer Saul Hernandez sounds better; maybe some time off the road helped. This album is fine, but drummer Alfonso Andre did better work on the La Barranca album that was released earlier in the year. That's the one to seek out and hear.
