Great soundtrack. There are songs that weren't in the movie on this CD. It's great... for the most part.

I really like the song "As Long As I'm Singing" and was looking forward to hearing Kevin Spacey's version - but they just used the version from the film, with him in a duet with the kid who plays the younger version of himself. I was very disappointed. Also, "Up The Lazy River" was the same version from the film, with the actress who plays his mother singing the main part, the young Bobby singing and conversing along with her. And what's worse, there is dialog from the film included. I was irritated because I was looking forward to hearing these two songs sung by Kevin Spacey.

I loved this CD so much. My dad bought it for me when I was like 12. then I lost it and I almost cried. I bought it again because i coudlnt live without it. a great song for relaxing at night. WEll known songs and some not so well known stuff, but its all first rate

I sent a copy of this cd to my best friend Art who is learning to play the piano. Here is what I wrote.

Dear Art,

The 1890's and early 1900's had their Ragtime music. In the 1920's the popular sound was know as Tin Pan Alley. As a young composer George Gershwin was a major contributor to the Tin Pan Alley music genre.

This album is comprised mostly of Gershwin's Tin Pan Alley tunes with two exceptions; the most notable of these is a piece that he debuted in concert in 1925. It was a jazz/classical work that clearly shows its Tin Pan Alley roots. While it was panned by the critics of the day it is now considered to be one of the great works of classical music. It is his Rhapsody in Blue (track 5).

while the songs and the performers are terrific,the overall effect is somewhat unsatisfying without the images.It is as though it was recorded off a television set.The rating is not for the wonderful words and music(5) ,but for the audio quality(okay,no more) Freds best;'flying down to rio, needle in a haystack ..a foggy day'Ginger 'lets call the whole the thing off..pick yourself up'... Oh hell, 5 stars.

Al Jolson had a golden voice that reminds one of a mixture of fine scotch, a summer evening, and great friends. The mellow baritone will take you down memory lane with old reliables such as "Sonny Boy", "April Showers" etc. Al's version of "Are you Lonesome Tonight?" is by far the BEST of all the versions that I have heard. Yes, it is even better than Elvis' version. His "Some Enchanted Evening" will take you to that place in time that only you (and maybe the other), has tucked away in the recesses of memory.

If you like the old singing style and some great oldies this CD is a must.
