New singer, climbed her way to the national scene late in life. She was working until recently as a security guard or something, but man has she got talent. The fact that she wasn't discovered until recently is an indictment against the record industry and their disproportionate interest in the "look" of singers. No, she's not pretty in the Britney Spears/Paris Hilton kind of way, but she has a simply gorgeous voice which she uses to sing R and B with a lot of funk and soul. If you like the old Motown sounds, or 70s funk, and who doesn't by the way, you can't help but love this CD. JULY 2008 REVIEW: I purchased this particular box set a little over a month ago, and I must say: it does NOT disappoint. You really can't complain; although the box set was released several years ago, and therefore the early 1990's CD mastering here isn't necessarily as strong and powerful sounding as a 2008 mastering might be, the tracks presented here are bright and clear. Approximately 100 tracks fill out this 4-CD box set, and most of the songs are winners. And they are presented here in their original mono sound mixes as originally released (an apparent problem for some reviewers here, but I had no issue with it; the songs sound the same as they always have). Although considerably overpriced at $70 list, Amazon had this on sale for about $40 and that is a hell of a bargain. Great music and great sound for the era and then some. Rhino excels at this sort of thing and this is no exception. If you like doo-wop, keep an eye out for the next sale- or splurge if you can afford it.

Oldies but Goodies, Vol. 3 is a rather good installment in this fifteen CD series; and although it isn't perfect it's really quite good. The sound quality is excellent and the artwork is about par for this CD series. This is great music for people who love the "oldies!"

The Monkees start it all off with their great hit entitled "I'm A Believer." "I'm A Believer" features The Monkees at their very best; the sing and harmonize perfectly. The guitar work is awesome and the percussion works well as it helps to mark the best. Great! Leslie Gore sings `It's My Party" with a lot of feeling and whenever I hear Leslie Gore sing this I always smile even though the lyrics aren't the happiest; Leslie just does such a wonderful job on this recording.
