I can't recommend "Narrow Stairs" highly enough. I was wondering how Death Cab For Cutie would follow up their masterpiece (Plans) and I was highly skeptical that they could. So many details made "Plans" such a great album and the follow up was going to be a very delicate procedure. "Narrow Stairs" shows growth without sacrificing taste and all the quality of their songwriting and musicianship has evolved in all the right ways. The band has the gifts of creativity and melodicism. The songs on "Narrow Stairs" don't require multiple listens in order to get them engraved in your brain and the whole album is that rare gem that is great from beginning to end. How will they follow this one up?

I think Led-heads who are excited about a new Robert Plant CD will be extremely disappointed. Mr. Plant is no longer a spring chicken or a wild rooster for that matter. He's a mature artist looking to spread his wings. I think he's found a new groove! Isn't that truly the sign of a great and lasting artist? Someone who can shed their skin, try on something new and make it fit like a glove.
Plant's voice is so bluesy here and very mellow. Kraus, whom I know very little about provides a wonderful balance. I believe this will become a classic. I thoroughly enjoy listening to this CD; before I know it, it's over. It's as if it flows effortlessly from the beginning to the end of the disc; one piece of work with a dozen punctuations!
I'm sure those ... Read More:

So the concept supposedly was the raucous behavior of the Saturday night (the night before) and then the melancholy Sunday morning after. It has a bit of a feel to that, but it turned out to not just be half up-tempo songs and half down-tempo. Instead, the Crows keep things moving along on this album. Even though I've read a good number of mediocre reviews, I decided to give this one a chance. I thought this might be the first Crows album I didn't buy.
After giving it a chance, I really came to appreciate what it was about. There is actually a small amount of filler on here and while there's no true "classic" song on here that jumps out, there's a nice consistency across all the songs that makes the album worthwhile. The first two songs are the most driving ... Read More:

I am a moderate fan of Radiohead, and while I have listened to most of their older music, I have only owned Hail to the Thief and this album. As for this album, it is just beautifully composed. These guys obviously see and music on a whole other level, which may good or bad depending on who you are. The band continues to evolve and create original music (and maybe it does take some drug related experience). If you are put off by the music originally, give it another listen, and also try to picture how this band put the music together (or watch a video of it). I think that is what made me fall in love with this album. I believe people who have reviewed this album negatively are giving emotionally powered criticisms, like Radiohead is screwing them personally, so just ... Read More:

My two year old and I both love this CD - he asks for certain songs again and again and we haven't gotten tired of it yet. If my other favorite bands (Fountains of Wayne, Cake, etc) would follow BNL's lead and come out with kids CDS, all would be right with the world. BNL has always had pretty kid-friendly music and with this CD, I am hoping to create a lifelong BNL fan in my son since my husband and I both like the band anyway. Buy it, you won't regret it!
