Yes, here is one more thing to blame on Woody Allen, as if he hasn't had enough problems in his life. Earlier this year I watched and reviewed in this space the film Radio Days that Woody directed. Every since then in the deep recesses of my brain the tunes Paper Dolls and Sentimental Journey have been pounding away. Hey this is music made before I was born, although maybe I picked it up in the womb. Why is it in my head? I am still a child of my generation and fought the anti-Vietnam War fight to the tunes of Bob Dylan's Desolation Row and The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter but I think I can make a little room for this, if only to keep my brain from stopping that pounding. Having been a long-time fan of Northern Exposure, I was really pleased to see this CD at a used bookstore the other day and quickly snapped it up. There are 12 tracks on this CD, and some of my favorites are the theme music [of course] -such a quirky composition so evocative of the show's spirit,Jolie Louise[ by Daniel Lanois], At Last[Etta James], and When I Grow Too Old to Dream [Nat King Cole], among others. Listening to some of these tracks was like a walk down memory lane for me, remembering some of the scenes in which the songs were played. Like a long-time friend or good book, this CD is a wonderful companion on a lazy afternoon.

There are so many great songs on here. I was introduced to two great Sam Butera songs, enjoyed more of Lou Rawls silky smooth voice, and gained more appreciation for Dean Martin and Bobby Darin's great voices. Great CD - all the songs are great!

Blue and Sentimental isn't just one of Quebec's finest albums (alongside Heavy Soul); it's one of Grant Greens finest also. The sparse instrumentation coupled with such strong soloing makes them both stand out like three dimensional sound sculptures. The remastering has only emphasised this wonderful clarity.

Much has been mentioned about the ability of rock musicians to fashion songs out of riffs but none do it better than a Jazzman. Minor Impulse, written by Quebec, is `just a riff' that tumbles into a quintessential swinger of both their styles. It has a way of bringing people back to life and must be one of the greatest jazz tracks ever!

Are you kidding, who do you think Eric Clapton learned his best licks from?? Yep, T-Bone. This CD has no bad, average, or even great recordings on it. They are all spectacular!! T-Bone is the master of the "modern" blues style, yeah, like Eric Clapton, only earlier and beautiful music in his own right.

This is a excellent mix of well known Nat King Cole hits and very easy to listen to songs that show the true talent of this great singer. I give it five stars simply on it's merit and enjoyment. But one I wish was on this CD is "Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy days of Summer". Why it isn't I don't understand. But,I haven't found it yet on any other NKC mix either. Don't let that stop you though. You'll enjoy every song that is on this CD.
