If you have been reading the reviews , you know what the series is about. The (nearly) "Complete Motown Singles" from the Detroit era 1959-1972. A very few songs had to be left off due to licensing in the series. But what you do have with the fresh , new decade starting year of 1970 is 144 songs on 6 discs clocking in at 7 hours , 33 minutes , and 3 seconds. Marvin , Smokey , The Marvelettes , The Temptations , The Jackson Five , Diana Ross without the Supremes , the Supremes without Diana Ross , Rare Earth ...and "War ! What is it good for ? Absolutely nuthin' (say it again y'all).....I am going to be so depressed when this unbelievable series comes to a close next year. There's a great selection of tunes, but they sound the same as they did on the radio 40 years ago. I fiddled with my stereo's tuners to make sure they were set properly, but couldn't get a crisp, clean sound.

Don't have much to add, as the other reviews have covered this box set excellently.
This is an awesome collection of funk tunes, and one of the best box sets I've ever had the privilege to own. Great for both the novice and funk collector.

This double CD of hits before and during my time is suitable for listening pleasures be it solo or social. Artists like Brick, Oliver Cheatham, and Vaughn Mason truly add quality to the CD and unless you have a hole in your sole, you'll wanna dance all the way through each CD.

Lately I've started to look for early funk recordings that I had never heard of. Cold Heat seemed like a great collection.
On first listen though, this wasn't as groovin' as I had hoped for. It could be that the lo-budget production quality of the tracks got in the way or maybe the material itself was off. It's useful to hear the influences of the day. Psychedelic rock meets soul blues and early funk. And I did like that it was mostly instrumental. It seems like this stuff was best experienced live, and didn't translate that well in the studio.

I like the first Motown Classics Gold compilation quite a bit and I'm glad they put another one out. Even though my Motown collection is always growing, and I already have most of the songs that appear here, it'd be nice to have some of the other songs here to enjoy. Still, I don't get why 'Dancing In The Street' by Martha & The Vandellas and 'My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)' by David Ruffin are on this compilation, since they already appeared on the first Classics Gold volume. It's redundant. There could've been other songs in their place to discover or rediscover.
But never mind. This is still a great collection, and I plan to pick it up as soon as I can.
