I recently purchased this CD on Amazon and was initially shocked at the shoddy packaging quality of this title. The inserts in the case were literally printed off of a pretty bad ink jet printer (at low resolution, I might add) and the CD itself was burned off of a computer with a stomper-type label affixed to it. The recording itself was just okay, but easily gets muddy in musical segments with strong percussion. Sound definition and overall mixing is weak to say the least (perhaps the instrument wasn't mic'd properly). Too bad, because considering the esoteric nature of the subject matter, it makes this disk the only real choice available.

This CD of 22 polkas, is a compilation of a few albums that appeared from the early 60s through 1975 on the Dot and Ranwood labels. On a few of the tracks, Myron is backed by the Welk band, and if you hear a second accordion player, chances are that it is being played by Lawrence Welk himself.....an example would be on Helena Polka. There is a part where Lawrence is playing the melody lead and Myron is playing some arpeggiated runs behind him. If only they would release Volume 2! This CD nonetheless highlights Myron's virtuosity as an accordionist, and the uniform excellence of his work from this time period.

Got this for my mother in law. She'll probably like it and with her hearing aids she won't be able to discern the quality, but when she played it we thought it sounded like a pretty old, poor quality recording. Maybe that's what you'd expect with old original recording, but it didn't appear to be remastered or anything to update the sound, which was somewhat muffled. Would go with more Ferrante and Teicher CDs for her; even the old ones sound much better than this.
