If you've never heard of Garrison Keillor or Lake Wobegon, well are you in for a treat.
Sit back and put on your head phones and be prepared for people around you to think you're out of your mind when they glance in your direction and hear you laughing.
Release Date November 09, 2004
This is a hilarious album with all the favourite aspects of the Prairie Home Companion show. Garrison Keillor could read the phone book and it would be funny.
Release Date April 06, 2006
The reviews are mostly negative here. I just got this for my dad, and he says it's good *and* funny. He's an old-school listener though, so for newbies, the Dusty and Lefty you may have seen in Robert Altman's movie are not the Dusty and Lefty of the real radio show. If you're familiar with the radio show, and the 'Lives of Cowboys' skits, you'll more than likely enjoy this CD release. As a side note I'd highly recommend subscribing to Garrison's weekly monologue, 'The News From Lake Wobegon', if you have I-Tunes. It's a free weekly podcast, taken directly from the Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts. It's updated about mid-week, and well worth your effort if you can't catch the weekly radio show.

I always wondered why this radio program caused so much panic back then. So after listening to this, I realized how people could've easily mistaken it for the real thing had they missed the beginning. This is a kind of a radio program that was way ahead of its time in 1938. We're used to it now, we are more jaded and habituated to this type of broadcast. But if you transpose the Mars aliens to terrorist in planes etc.. we could just as easily believe it and create panic now. Orson Wells in incredible!

As a young girl, my parents introduced me to the comedy of The Bickersons. We've enjoyed the albums for about 40 years now. My teenage daughters love them too. I bought 2 copies of the CD, one for my Dad and one for me. Clean, good, hilarious fun!

Alice Faye, while not well known today, was a very very famous singer in the thirties. She made her name on radio in 1933, then transferred to films in 1934 and by 1940, she was the top female box office star in America. While her voice was untrained and natural, she may have been the first white singer to popularise the husky contralto. At the height of her film career, song writers like Irving Berlin and Harry Warren wrote specifically for her and her picture on the cover of sheet music was an almost guarantee of volume sales.
This CD contains all but one of her commercial recordings from 1933 to 1937, plus a few tracks lifted from films from 1939 to 1943, after she stopped recording commercially. Among the latter is Faye's exquisite rendition ... Read More:
