when you're talking about slide-guitar greats, you have to include sonny landreth.
dwayne allman,george harrison,ry cooder,lowell george,robert johnson and roy rogers are among the best ever and i'm here to say that sonny is at the top of the list.
different styles i know, hard to say who's best?
not for me.
i think i've seen him and the goners live about 40 times or so(i lived in new orleans)and each time he's seems to just get better.
this new one is still growing on me,i'm not sure it's gonna be one of my top favorites yet.
hearing "south of i-10"(his sgt pepper), i thought he could'nt get better,but he is way out front of anyone else.
i've always thought of him this way.

I bought this album based on the strength of just one song...I was so happily suprised to find the entire album was great. There are not a lot of albums I enjoy listening to start to finish; When I find one I put it on my "desert island" short list--this album made it there right away. The songs are simple, well crafted and beautiful. LaMontagne's voice is gorgeous and can run from mournful to joyful in three songs. He cites both Otis Redding and CSNY as influences and both are apparent on different tracks without the artist ever once sounding unoriginal. Loved it. I could not believe I had never heard of this guy! Caught a cut off the new release from a radio stream out of Black Mountain, NC. He offers the true blues package... great band, great guitar playing and the voice. Great CD!

This is a first rate CD by Marcia--admittedly my fave contemporary artist. If "Where Do You Go" dosen't move you emotionally you must be dead! Marcia is the most soulful voice I have ever heard in decades of music listening--and that's the idea--in a now world of cookie cutter singers and musicians Marcia Ball is a unique expressive vibrant talent-I have played her CD's for years for people and have dragged them to see Marcia in person and I never have a negative response! why Marcia isn't even more well known has always been beyond me--
