Avenged Sevenfold have truly mastered their craft. The gnarly vocals, the Iron Maiden-like dual guitar parts and solos, the jackhammer drums, etc. WE GET IT ALREADY. You're Avenged Sevenfold. We got it ever since we heard your other albums and songs some months ago. If you liked Waking The Fallen I'm sure you'll like this. But to think this resembles any sort of change for A7X, you'd have to be disturbed. OR to even think this is their best album It has the elements of a normal A7X album except that it resembles a hamburger: processed and ready for consumption. You'll like this hamburger if you like hamburgers because it tastes like a hamburger and goes down easy. If you liked the other three, there'll be more for you quite easily and it'll have ... i think underoath mastered their sund with dtgl. and with litsos they have continued in that vein. overall it isn't that much heavier, but the lyrics are more personal and the bandreally pushed themselves musically and made some new and devastating sounds. underoath do not set atop the screamo genere; it lays crushed beneath their heavy feet.

A lot of people said that this band would fall by the wayside after Josh Scogin, Daniel Davison and a couple of other members decided to move along and pursue other interests. Still Cory Branden and co. managed to bring about a very strong release in 'Norma Jean vs. The Anti-Mother.' Fueled by a loose concept and collaborations (not just guest appearances), strong lyrics and a newly-discovered experimental edge, it's easy to see why most scene kids would bad mouth NJ's latest release: Norma Jean finally stepped out of their comfort zone... but not without taking some of their tried-and-true formulas with them and concocting some insanely new material.
What surprises me the most is not how Norma Jean has matured musically but how MUCH they've ... Read More:

I heard The Black Parade for at least a year, always complaining extensively about it, then suddenly realized how great it was. It was sudden and completely unexpected. I guess I just had to get used to the very dark and somewhat violent lyrics. But I have to say, now My Chemical Romance is one of my favorite bands ever. I heard about Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and got it since I was such a great (if late) fan of the other CD. At first I wasn't that impressed. But by the second time over I heard it, I was already convinced it could compete with The Black Parade. However, I don't think I would recognize it immediately as My Chemical Romance as based on their other CD. For one thing, on average, it's a much heavier CD, (for example, here you don't have any songs like Cancer, ... Read More:

Believe it or not, I'm not a huge A7X fan. When I heard Bat Country on the Radio, I couldn't help but think "This is ridiculous! Who came up with the idea for this, Rosie O'Donnell?". However, a year later, a friend had played A7X around me and I had gotten used to it. Then I DLed a few A7X songs and thought, "Hot DAMN this is some good stuff!", and then later, I had bought City of Evil, and I LOVED it! I mean, while Iron Maiden are my favorite band, I definitely consider this to be a metal milestone. What you get is 10 fun and creative songs. Beginning the album is "The Beast and the Harlot", which is known on Guitar Hero II. A very fun and catchy song, irresistible and in-your-face. My favorite track off of this is "Burn it Down", which is very fast and wastes no time stopping to slow ... Read More:

I don't write artistic music reviews. Let me just say that I have listened to this album almost every day since it was released, and I am still far from bored or sick of listening to it. I have not listened to much of my other music this year, Bedlam seems to have sucked the life out of it all. I hope the Volta unleashes more brutal assaults on us soon. I hear the next album will be mellow/acoustic.
