No Gordon Lightfoot, no Ian Tyson (and k.d. is as much a cowboy as Ian, just a generation or two apart). And I realize Bruce Cockburn is sensitive and has his politics right, but he's gotten so humorless. And Ron Sexsmith is erratic and I would have picked other songs before Fallen. Beyond that, no complaints. This is a terrific CD -- she could have chosen any of twenty or so songs for both NY and LC, but the two she's done for each of them are superb. In fact, for me, her Helpless rivals the original. Ditto for Joni Mitchell's A Case of You, the definitive, bracing and bittersweet ode to lost pasts, whatever your sexual persuasion may be. I like very much the voice of KD LANG so I like this CD. Best song: Lock, Stock And Teardrops!!! It is awesome!!
If you like country music you will enjoy it. Even when I like the whole CD maybe some songs can be weird for other people. No matter what I just love it. She have a great great voice!!!

Absolute Torch and Twang

This is probably the album that made k.d.lang a recording star, and it is a standout. I recommend it for anyone who loves a finely tuned voice at its best. It is a disc that not only country-western fans will enjoy. Every lang album is a treasure, so this belongs in every musical lovers collection.

First, I want to say that K D Lang has an absolute gorgeous voice,sultry,and her style is jazzy and cool, but some of the songs were a little slow. The valley of the dolls theme was why i purchased this and it didnt dissapoint, Smoke Rings was great,with an Hawaiian feel. I think the theme was interesting too. She is so underrated.

Sometimes, absolutely nothing. Especially when it is done in k.d. Lang's yearning, contented and unironic vocals and with impeccable, sometimes near-jazzy arrangements. This is not a CD for the ages, never destined for a Top 200 Ever list, but for summer listening as thunderstorms cool the city or when newly or still after years head over heels in love, it will do very, very well.
