CD-Charts Music : Sousa's Greatest Hits

Sousa's Greatest Hits

by: John Philip Sousa, United States Marine Band

Release Date September 07, 1999
Great CD I've read the other reviews and though the sound quality isn't as good as top 40 pop the sound is true to the music and that can't be beat. These classic American songs remind us of the strong heritage we come from. Just like these melodies that dance through our history, this album is the sound track to that history and it's depth reflects the depth of our history. This a great album anyone who loves our heritage will enjoy.

Three Hit Albums from the U.S. Military Bands

from: Collector's Choice

Release Date September 07, 2004
Years ago, I've baught an album (LP) from The Navy Band in Italy. I've never heard US-marches before, but liked them from the start.
Now I'm very happy to have this album and two other ones on CD.
If you like marches you'll like this CD.

Not Sousa: Great Marches Not by John Philip Sousa, Vol. 1

by: Kenneth J. Alford, Edwin Eugene Bagley, Charles S. Belsterling, William Paris Chambers, Henry Fillmore, Julius Fucik, Louis Ganne, Edwin Franko Goldman, Johannes Hanssen, Karl L. King, Pierre Leemans, Alex F. Lithgow, Johann I Strauss, Carl Teike, William Walton, Performed by the United States Marine Band "President's Own"

Release Date September 05, 2006
It is The President's Own and the playing on this is superb. However the recordings were obviously done at many different times and lack a consistent sound quality. Most of these marches appear on some other recording I own, but I was stoked to find all of them on a Marine Corps Band CD. My excitement dwindled with the sonic quality. Oh well.

CD-Charts Music : Bizet: Carmen Symphony

Bizet: Carmen Symphony

from: Naxos

Release Date February 26, 2008
It seems rather incredible that this recording is taken from a live concert, because the balances between the different sections is so perfectly achieved, and there is such perfection in the playing. However, what comes across in this CD is the excitement of a live performance, the magic, especialy in the Carmen Symphony by Bizet-Serebrier.
I remember that this work won the Latin GRAMMY a couple of years ago on a CD with the orchestral version. This new band version is even better and more lively than the previous one. Carmen Symphony is a terrific work.
The United Sates Marine Band are obviously great, and they seem inspired by the baton of Jose Serebrier, who conducts them in masterful performances of the Suite from the Ballet "Estancia" ... Read More:

I love that Fred Thompson is on this album. Though his bid for the presidency was unsuccessful this is a great treat on a great album.

Liberty for All

from: Altissimo Records

Release Date September 07, 2004
Jessa Guy,

I can't believe that you took the time to give a one-star review of a CD you've never heard, simply because the picture of the CD contained an African-American child on the cover. The CD is titled "Liberty for ALL". Not "Liberty for an apparently racist 83 year-old WWII veteran".

To add to that, I seriously doubt that you are an 83 year-old WWII veteran. I can base this assumption upon the fact that I read three other 'brilliant' reviews that you wrote. In one review you claim you have a 7 year-old daughter. In another review you demoted a product from a 5 to 4 stars because you LOST THE MANUAL to a SELF-SETTING clock for crying out loud!

Please stop wasting your time writing reviews. You're not helping anybody.

CD-Charts Music : Greatest Hits of Sousa's Band: Original Recordings Performed by the John Philip Sousa Band

Greatest Hits of Sousa's Band: Original Recordings Performed by the John Philip Sousa Band

by: John Philip Sousa and the United States Marine Band

Release Date July 16, 2007
For all the stupid people who wrote a bad review of this CD, all I have to say is GET A CLUE PEOPLE.

These are ORIGINAL RECORDINGS from the early 1900's.
There were no DIGITAL recordings, there were no high end high definition microphones, no mixing boards, nothing we are used to and spoiled with now.

All I have to say is these people are STUPID. To have an ORIGINAL recording of Sousa's band with Sousa conducting the pieces the way they were intended is a valuable tool for musicologists as well as average students and musicians. Obviously the people who wrote the reviews are uneducated or just plain ignorant.

I recommend this CD to any REAL musician who can appreciate having these original recordings. Yes, I have a music ... Read More:
