Knowle West Boy

by: Tricky

Release Date September 09, 2008
Great early work with Massive Attack was followed by Maxinquaye easily one of the top ten releases of the 90's and then nothing. Oh there was a cut here and there that teased at the genius of his early work, but nothing consistent. Well folks, the drought is over. This may be even better than Maxinquaye. I won't rush to judgement on that issue until I hear this disc a few hundred more times, but I am just happy that he still has it in him. My favorite cut opens the disc, Puppy Love. I cannot get it outta my head a mix of a smoky piano lounge sound, some violin and the Tricky hip hop signature whisper. It segues into the wonderful Bacative and the disc never lets up except for one throwaway track that sounds more like some of his weaker ... Read More:

Release Date April 18, 1995
I HAVE MANY MAXIVE ATTACK AND PORTISHEAD CDS, I BOUGHT TWO TRICKY CDS; MAXINIQUE AND PRE-MILLINEUM. MAXINIQUE IS THE ONE TO HAVE. IT CONTINUES THE MELLOW THEME OF HIS PREVIOUS COLLABORATIONS. I'D STAY AWAY FROM PRE-MILLINEUM, IT'S DOES SOMETHING TO TRICKY'S VOICE THAT CAN START A HEADACHE...SOME OVER OR UNDER SYNTHESIZED NOISE.

Release Date November 19, 1996
This album is alright, starts off with more of a feel like Maxinquaye not Nearly God. but it just ddidn't live up to the hype that was around it. It's alright, but don't expect it to be as good as his first two. Get something like blow back, because at least he's experimenting with some different sounds. But here, it's just rehashing.

Good CD. This is 2007 and it is not necessary that every track on a CD be great, because you just rip the best tracks to your iTunes and delete the bad ones. Simple. I'll buy a CD for one track, if it's hot enough.
Now on this Tricky piece, I would keep tracks 1,2,4,8,9,10,12,and 13 and delete the rest. Use the AIFF (un-compressed) setting on iTunes.

Many know Tricky through Massive Attack and while i have much love for Massive Attack I am a huge fan of Tricky and his music.

This CD is easily the best effort yet, Costanza flows perfectly with her deeply intoxicating lyrics that mesh with the dark background 'rap' of Tricky.

Best songs:
Car Crash, dark ballad of a woman in a car crash.
The Love Cats, perfectly meshed slow and sensual.

Very moody and deep, this album is another chapter in a very interesting career.

Angels with Dirty Faces

by: Tricky

Release Date June 02, 1998
a powerful, driving and spirited album that takes the listener into a million interesting, pleasurable and challenging dimensions. This artist has prided himself on breaking new ground with every release. What he achieves - whether he was conscious of this at the time of creation, or not - is music that is lasting. You can dive into this auditory blissful realm years after the fact and still be perfectly blown away.

Vision, craftsmanship and great effort have sustained this miraculous artist in moving beyond, and remaining away, from any semblance of competition.

This is a classic.

Nearly God

by: Tricky

Release Date August 13, 1996
The opening track is a cover of ''Tattoo'' of the band Siouxsie & The Banshees. It's really effective. All the songs are in the same toxic mood.
The collaborations with various singers like Bjork add a plus to the album.
Maxinquaye was a must : this one is a great part II.

I did like the song of Breathe In, Breathe Out, but I would have loved a score release too. I would like to know the piece of music that had the choir, where he ran into the church people on the steps at the beginning of the movie? Thanks

Juxtapose

by: Tricky

Release Date August 17, 1999
Tricky with his fourth major album was back to his blistering best form. After the disappointing "Angels with Dirty Faces", Tricky teams up with DJ Muggs (from Cypress Hill) and Grease (amongst others) for a match (or matches) made in heaven with "Juxtapose".

The album kicks off with "For Real" - an ever-so-smooth dig at Gangster rappers and their "fake" lifestyles. The album then does a u-turn with "Bom Bom Diggy" - where Tricky is rapping some incredibly drugged fudged but memorable lines ("Drop the Bombz/Who Killed the Fonz/Henry Winkler/How does he thinker/How does he sinker" - total class peoples! To complete his epic little trilogy of songs - Contradictive is another smooth but dark song with what sounds like Iggy Pop being sampled for the chorus.

Juxtapose is short ... Read More:
