CD-Charts Music : The Fat of the Land

The Fat of the Land

by: The Prodigy

Release Date July 01, 1997
Bursting onto the scene in 97 with this breakout album Prodigy in many ways took the baton of industrial metal from Trent Reznors NIN and ran with it. It really is inconceivable that without NIN paving the way for them Prodigy could of had anywhere near the impact they had on the mainstream. This album is killer stuff, taking a range of traditional hard rock/metal shadings and giving them a new set of clothes and really adding a serious dose of accessibility to the industrial metal pantheon.

Starting up with Smack My Bitch Up the band show themselves to be no record company darlings. I mean it's not the most subtle way of starting up an album is it? The album moves along from there to Breathe, one of the hits off this release and ... Read More:

Their Law: Singles 1990-2005

by: The Prodigy

Release Date February 07, 2006
The Prodigy were a great singles band and the proof is in this compilation which contains basically everything a casual fan would want. I have to take a star off though for a couple of reasons. First, the non-inclusion of "Fire" and "Baby's Got A Temper" is a shame and secondly, the version of "Poison" on here must be a single mix or something because it's not the version I remembered from Music For The Jilted Generation (the intro isn't as good).

Overall a good compilation and a good substitute for their albums, which can be a bit tiring at times if you're not a fan of the genre generally.

Music for the Jilted Generation

by: The Prodigy

Release Date February 28, 1995
This album has a great atmosphere to it, very cinematic. I've actually found it to be the perfect soundtrack to any graphic novel I've ever read, in the 10 years I've owned it.
Each song has so many levels to it and yet remains so unique that you never find yourself waiting for a track to end.
The highlights are "Voodoo People" "Their Law" and "Poison", but really I view the album as one long experience as opposed to individual songs.
For those who found Prodigy through "Fat of the Land", just keep in mind that this album is not as heavy and is a little more dance based. Although the three songs I listed above are basically sister tracks to "Firestarter", "Smack my B*** Up" and "Funky S***".
This is a great techno album, so ... Read More:

Spawn: The Album (1997 Film)

by: Filter & The Crystal Method, Marily Manson & Sneaker Pimps, Orbital & Kirk Hammett, Korn & the Dust Brothers, Mansun & 808 State, Prodigy & Tom Morello, Silverchair & Vitro

Release Date July 29, 1997
Immortal Records executive producer Happy Walters was responsible for killing the long-standing feud between rock and hip-hop when he coordinated the production for the soundtrack to 1993's "Judgement Night", which was critically-lauded for its unorthodox tag-teaming of acts of both genres. Walters decided to try the same concept for "Spawn", the 1997 live-action flim adapted from creator Todd MacFarlane's Marvel Comic. This time out, he put together established acts from both hard rock and electronica, and the results here were equally as memorable if not terrific.

Filter & The Crystal Method ("[Can't You] Trip Like I Do"), Marilyn Manson & Sneaker Pimps ("Long Hard Road Out Of Hell"), Mansun & 808 State ("Skin Up Pin Up"), and ButHole ... Read More:

H.N.I.C., Pt. 2

by: Prodigy

Release Date April 22, 2008
This is a pretty solid follow-up but you can't really compare this album to the first H.N.I.C. Alchemist does his thing on the production but this album doesn't quite fill the shoes of the first solo disk from Prodigy. I actually liked Return of the Macc better. This is however still a good album. Definitely recommend this to any Mobb Deep fan.

Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned

by: The Prodigy

Release Date September 14, 2004
After the successful Fat Of The Land, this new album just doesn't really have anywhere near the interest. Fat Of The Land had trippy songs that pushed music to its highest boundaries. Always Outnumbered... on the other hand still has a handful of well developed songs. The best song without a doubt is 'You'll Be Under My Wheels' which reminds me alot of 'One Man Army' off the Spawn Soundtrack. This song is energetic and true to the Prodigy sound and vocals. Also check out the Smokin' Aces Soundtrack for a new Prodigy song called 'First Warning', it is an excellent track and I hope their next album is all in that style.
Another song on Always Outnumbered that is worth mentioning is 'Medusa's Path', now this song is very much like the song 'Narayan' from Fat Of ... Read More:

It's great for a drive and just to listen to a master spin it it reminds me of the uberrare Moby's Everything Is Wrong remixes Mixed cd set by Evil Ninja Moby. Just kick back and listen to this one if not for it being a brilliant mashup.

Experience: Expanded

by: The Prodigy

Release Date June 19, 2001
The Prodigy's first three albums are all techno classics. "Experience" is their first album released in 1992. It features all of their hits from that year which was a watershed year for rave music. The music is frenetic, uptempo, hard, and relentless. There is clearly a punk rock influence with these guys and they use it to create a unique style of techno music. This is great to listen to while working out, driving, and dancing (of course!). The second disc is a collection of remixes and b-sides and it is almost as good as the first disc. Fans of The Prodigy should pick this up along with "Music for The Jilted Generation" and "Fat of the Land" because they are all essential.
