This is actually a good Pretenders compilation, my one complaint would be that they didn't include "My City Was Gone", that seems like a necessary track. That aside, this compilation gathers together most of the hits and a few rarities, as well. Probably best for casual fans, or if you are just getting into The Pretenders, it's a good start.

The obvious dilemma facing any female who fronts an otherwise all-male group is that she can easily be classified as nothing more than eye candy either onstage or on the subsequent CD covers. Such is not the case with Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders anymore than it is the case with Debbie Harry of Blondie or Theresa Starr of the Echoes. All three ladies plainly govern their groups with their musical partners often being interchangeable, save for Martin Chambers of the Pretenders, Chris Stein of Blondie, or Mark Alexander of the Echoes. A compilation of ALL their hits. The pretenders are probably the most
underated band from the 70's - 80's. The guitar work on the CD is so tasty. Talented musicians and great songs! A must have for your CD collection.

When Chrissie Hynde returned in 1981 (following the Pretenders' self-titled debut Pretenders), I believed this hard-rocking woman in her schoolgirl bangs, scary dark eyeliner, and tight jeans, when she told the world, "bad boys get spanked." The Pretenders' second album was the final release from the original band. It was soonafter the release of this album that the "original" Pretenders (1978-1982) (consisting of Chrissie Hynde on vocals and guitar, James Honeyman-Scott on guitar, vocals, and keyboards, Pete Farndon on bass guitar and vocals, and Martin Chambers on percussion and vocals) suffered the death of Honeyman-Scott in 1982 from a cocaine overdose, and the death of Farndon in 1983 from a heroin overdose. 28 years after it's debut, I still shake my head in wonderment when I listen to this monumental debut. The only thing different is that I now listen to it on compact disc instead of vinyl.
And when I hear the UK national anthem, I will always remember the Pretenders show I was lucky enough to see in 1980 (at Golden Hall in downtown San Diego)with Bow-Wow-Wow opening for them. They always played the UK anthem standing facing the Union Jack before they played a single note at all of their live performances. James Honeyman Scott instantly won me over as the new king of the Stratocaster. Last of the Independents

This is one majestic piece of music, easily in the band's top two or three albums. I agree with the notion that through this album, Chrissie indeed shows she can lead the group to great heights in spite of its tumultuous past. Her lyrics and music are biting, passionate and quite honestly rise above most of her contemporaries. What a rocking and groundbreaking sound! It has the ring of true, heartfelt rock n' roll in the way it should be played and experienced by the listener. If this was the only album the band ever put out, it would seal their status as one of the enduring and great acts in modern rock. Long Live The Pretenders!!!

I've had this CD since it came out - and it is still one of the CD's in my most listened to pile.
Such a great live acoustic set with so much feeling added into the songs from Chrissie. If your a pretenders fan or not, you're sure to love it.
