Nothing more, nothing less. I'll have to see what is so special about "Neon Golden" one of these days. But this album is reminiscent of a ton of other beepy and clicky music, and the singer doesn't sound very enthusiastic singing these tunes. Maybe that's the point but I'd prefer some energy.

I purchased this album deaf and blind. I had seen a couple of their songs on YouTube and this purchase proved well worth it. A must have for me. Wouldn't part with it. Check it out.

I didn't realize this album was so heavily metal influenced. However, as I am usually not a fan of metal I take it as a new genre of music to experience. It's not the metal where you hear the lead singer screaming and such, it's Archer with his gorgeous voice surrounded by heavy guitars and drums. If I can handle it I think other people can too. It's perfect angry music. I totally listened to this album with an open mind....because I started out with Neon Golden and went in reverse with their albums.

I believe this was the first album put out by The Notwist. As some of the other reviewers have noted, it's totally different than the bleeps and ticks of Neon Golden. However, if you listen to all four of their albums, starting with this one, you'll see an evolution of style from the guitar thrash of this album to the drum machine modulations of Neon Golden (from which the Postal Service has borrowed heavily). Their second album, 12, is very guitar driven, but with some elements of jazz thrown in abruptly. Shrink still uses a lot of guitar, but also starts mixing in drum loops and uses still more jazz sounding instrumentation.

I became a fan of notwist after their first album and have followed them for three albums--12, shrink,neon golden. Shrink is a great album and continue their experimental atmospheric sounds with this album. This album to me has the best compliments of pop, distortion, rock. The album is a continuous flow of music that deserves compliments in its time period. A true 4 star album.
