Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, David Crosby, Michael Clarke, and Gene Clarke. The Byrds. One of the top groups in their time. This represents some of their greatest hits (and there are some bonus cuts not on the original work).
Some examples of their art:
"Mr. Tambourine Man": Maybe their quintessential hit? There is the characteristic instrumental sound and the voices melding together in a typical fashion. The liner notes suggest that the Byrds were a kind of synthesis between Bob Dylan and the Beatles. I'm not so sure that I see that, but this cut might make the case for some listeners. This is a smooth melodic piece, so typical of the Byrds. A laid back sound. . . .

Sweetheart of the Rodeo
I was 14 when this LP was released. 40 years hence, I buy the CD. Loved it then; love it just as much now. The Byrds in their Nashville period. Simply great; 'nuf said.

Want to know what the world was like in 1963, in San Francisco, on sunny afternoons, when all the windows were open on a garden from a small apartment high on the Ashbury Street Hill where Anne and Stan Rice lived and wrote? --- Before the Flower Children came. ---- Then listen to this classic album, the album that defined "jazz" for me more than bossa nova. It was an album that made me want to flee the foggy streets of San Francisco, put on khaki clothes and drift south. It took me well over twenty years to get to Brazil, and the tunes were no longer in my head. Don't know who Stan and Anne are? No surprise. --- They were young writers, dreamers and students. ---- Just wanted to make this review a little reflective of what those moments were ... Read More:

If you are a Byrd's fan - this CD collection is a MUST. The music brings me back to my college days - and this is a good representative of their musical styles.

For the longest time, I never bothered with the Byrds. I'm not a hippie, but grew up during the punk/new wave era, and brought a lot of my esthetics from that sound, along with the Doors, Velvet Underground, and Rolling Stones. I liked Bob Dylan as well, but as for the Byrds, I thought only of their earliest work, when they did Dylan covers with thick harmonies. Much later, maybe after hearing how REM, or PETTY, were so influence by the Byrds, that I got a BEST OF cassette, but it still didnt show thet whole story. Well, I got this album, and NOTORIOUS BYRD BROTHERS, and found out the truth. This was the trippiest band around, for awhile. They did psychedelia very early on, (5th Dimention) in fact, they turned on John Lennon to his second acid trip. For early 1967, its amazing ... Read More:

What a debut! The Byrds only released two albums and a handful of singles with Gene Clark--until a rather abysmal reunion in the early 1970's--but what a couple of albums they are! "Mr. Tambourine Man," their first release, would of course be hailed as one of the penultimate folk-rock records, with the group so aptly adapting the songs of Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger to a radio-friendly audience. Yet, for me, it's not how the group performs the title track, "The Bells of Rhymney," "Spanish Harlem Incident" or even "Chimes of Freedom," but the quality of their original material, the bulk of which was penned by Gene Clark! Clark's amazing "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better" has become a rock and roll classic, and "Here Without You" beautifully exemplifies its composer's darker, poetic side. Clark and McGuinn, ... Read More:

The Byrds "Untitled" has been, is now , and will always be in my top 5 favorite albums of all time. It holds up, sounds as fresh today as it did nearly 40 years ago. Quality music. Can't go wrong with this one.
