listening to this latest Black Keys album. I know it's very popular to love this album and the collaboration between Danger Mouse and the Keys, but it just ain't got the simple beauty of their earlier stuff. While I agree with others that innovation and change are good things for bands to explore, I do not think that is what happened here. It feels to me like they just dressed up some old concepts and dulled the edge that makes the early stuff so great. I also agree that Magic Potion was not very inspired, but I do miss being amazed by the incredible depth of the early, simple, raw, recordings. It's possible to innovate without losing the soul.

This is a super offering by the Black Keys. I like their latest, "Magic Potion" a little better, but both are so good that you should own them if you are a fan of blues guitar.

The Black Keys must have travelled in a time machine from 1969 to today, having listened to Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker, then heard what the Rolling Stones and The Yardbirds did with it, adding some heavy drums that sound like baseball bats pounding ... I just couldn't believe my ears when I first heard this, then hearing this amazing album, one of the best discoveries I've made lately. While I'm shocked the Keys haven't made it big (not so much considering the crap that does) I'm kinda glad, that way they won't get corrupted by stardom, like so many good ones have. My wife who doesn't like anything newer than Skynyrd was moving to it. That says it all,

i love this kind of music and was very happy to find in on amazon. my son introduced me to the black keys, and i love to play it at work.

The Moan

I'm kind of surprised more people haven't reviewed this EP. "The Moan" aside from "Busted" is my favorite of all TBK songs. The main riff sounds like a take off of Howlin' Wolf's "Moanin at Midnight". The middle of the song is Carney at his best and Dan ripping it up with variations of the great blues riff. This song alone makes this EP worth buying. I also really enjoy the fast paced new version of "Have Love Will Travel". This song was already a good one from their album "Thickfreakness" but it's made even better here. The Keys have another reprint on this album "Heavy Soul". I like the song but I wish they would have written a new one or put one of their unreleased songs in place of heavy soul. I don't see the need for a 4 song EP to feature two songs ... Read More:
