Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

The final two minutes of Sgt. Pepper is far and away the greatest finale in rock history. After John's lazy proclamation that he loves to turn you on (albeit facetiously), the band carouses into a whirlwind of cacophony with reckless drums and horns and noises into the climax, a sustained piano drone keyed by all the members, followed by a bunch of nonsense chatter by the band (it sounds like "never-oozy-awsa-ohna-wa"). In the history of rock music, there has never been anything like it before or since. As far as the rest of the album goes, it just about lives up to the hype. Abbey Road

A thousand reviews? I only can echo the majority. This is simply another masterpiece from the greatest band that ever cut a record. These four were in a class by themselves. The Beatles and then there were all the others. Abbey Road blew everyone away when it came out and still is an experience and not just a set of songs put together for listening to while you run the vacumn cleaner. I always think of some of the assertions that have been made about Shakespeare when I take in the entire catlog of the Beatles. It seems impossible that one small rock combo could come together and create art the way they did the same way that so many people can't imagine one person writing as many classics as Shakespeare did. Appart from a couple 4-star cuts, this record is just amazing. It has all The Beatles' singles that went up to #1, in US and UK charts, arranged chronologically.

You may like it more or less, but you can't deny all the songs here defined the whole sound of contemporary pop/rock music, even till today, no matter how hard the critics are.

It may still lack a few other excellent songs from the band deserving to be on a greatest hits collection, but you may still try to get them sepparately by looking for the career albums.

These are just #1s. Not more. No less.

Rubber Soul

I was amazed to find a couple of songs on here that I didn't remember. This has a lot of my favorites. If you are a Beatle fan, I would definately recommend 'Rubber Soul'.

Easily one of the Beatles best albums! Diverse songwriting styles are showcased with each song seemingly having a different style yet they blend perfectly with each other. Of course in charge of the production was George Martin as always. It's amazing how much ground this album covers given the fact that none of the fourteen songs featured actually lasts more than three minutes and a half!!
By the time this album was released in 1966 the band's sound had evolved a lot indeed. Especially when you think that their debut collection was released just three years earlier!

Let's start with guitarist John Lennon who sings five songs here. The first is "I'm Only Sleeping" with a simple band sound of drums, bass, and a lone dominating acoustic guitar is one of the album's best cuts. But, ... Read More:

Even though I haven't been a beatlemaniac in the 60's and 70's, through the years, I have learned to appreciate THE BEATLES work as the greatest composers of rock-pop music from the last century.
LOVE is a wonderful compilation edited for a show, with a choice of such beautiful BEATLES masterpieces (how could the songs not be beautiful as all they work is wonderful?). By all means, the choice of the songs and the edition of them, with almost no interruption between one song and the following, makes of LOVE, a smooth delightful trip through love-music as wonderful as you could desire in a dream, as chosen by yourself.

Magical Mystery Tour

Introduction: My brother, Marc, was a great fan of the Beatles. He was almost nine years older than me, and his music was what I listened to (not always by choice!) when I was a kid. My brother died, suddenly and unexpectedly, on 8/6/2002. Today, 8/10/08, would have been his fifty-seventh birthday.

Magical Mystery Tour was the first album I bought, as a cassette tape, that might not have thrilled my parents. They saw The Beatles as hippies and a bad influence, but they did not openly object. I listened to it over and over again, way back when, and still enjoy the songs, for the most part. I now see the album as a mixed bag, quality-wise. Of course, all of this is just my opinion of the album.

Let It Be

Often reviewed as a sloppy album it nevertheless is historic for the fact that they split up after this album. I am a Beatle lover, so I like most of their songs, but "Let It Be", "The Long and Winding Road", and "I Me Mine" ( from George) are classics. It's a must have for Beatle fans.

A Hard Day's Night

This CD was AMAZING! It may not be the best Beatles album (Help! and Rubber Soul are, in my opinion), but it's The Beatles, so of course, you gotta love it! 5/5 stars!
