This CD opens with the classic Beach Boys song, "California Girls". It is the song that the group usually opens their live concerts with. Very cool. All their good songs are in this CD. Highly recommended.

It's really difficult to overrate 1966's "Pet Sounds". Aside from its influence on other musicians ("God Only Knows" spurred on Paul McCartney, for example, in the game of one-upmanship between the Beatles and the Beach Boys during the late '60s), it remains, quite simply, one of the most enjoyable pop albums ever released--like your favorite cold beverage on a very hot day. Even the two instrumentals, "Let's Go Away For Awhile" and "Pet Sounds", fit into the sequencing perfectly. Beach Boys - 20 Good Vibrations, The Greatest Hits (Volume 1)

At least three essential, MUST have Beach Boy's songs: "The Warmth Of The Sun", "In My Room", and "Don't Worry Baby", are missing from Vol.1. They are found on Vol.2, as well as the great classic "Endless Summer" CD.

"Vol. 1" is not even close to a complete Beach Boy's collection...get "Vol. 2" with it, or BETTER YET.. forget "Vol.1" and "Vol. 2" and just get "Endless Summer" along with "Pet Sounds" and you will have a great collection of Beach Boys songs.

If all you have is "Vol. 1", you are not at all getting the full picture. It would be like buying only part one of a two part movie DVD.

(By the way, I also happen to think "Surf's Up" from 'Smile" is essential. That one song ALONE is worth the price of "Smile".)

These are better than the abysmal (imo based on disraeli gears and tea for the tillerman) "back to black" reissues.

both the capitol reissue of ok computer and of pet sounds that i bought today are dead quiet and neither suffer from obvious digitalis. they do not sound as if they were recorded using the cd as the source, which many people have felt about the b to b pressings.

the lead vocal on pet sounds is a tiny bit on the bright side (though it may simply be more revealing of whats there - and my system is extremely revealing and cuts no slack in this direction), but it's not brittle like tea for ... Read More:

Sunflower/Surf's Up

Finally, as Capitol buddies-up the Beach Boys catalogue for re-release, a twofer that, for the most part, matches up to the band's best early work.

"Sunflower" has a load of pop gems - democratically written and performed by the band's various members and "Surf's Up" - thanks in large part to Brian's album-ending contributions ('Til I Die & the title track) ranks as one of the Beach Boys most artistic and poignant releases ever.

Littered with more-than-listenable music over the course of the disc, Beach Boys fanatics have known about these two albums for years. With awesome sound and neat packaging, this is a great twofer for anyone curious about the Boys' best work minus Bian's domination.

Yes Yes folks. Here I am, still in Malibu, enjoying the sun and surf and the company of Ingrid and Helga, members of the Norwegian Women's Volleyball League. Well, I did manage to make them stop fighting. It was decided that they would alernate my company in order to be fair. One would have me in the morning one day, then the next day in the evening. This schedule would go back and forth for my stay here. Sort of like a volleyball.(!) I tried to convince them that it wasn't fair to the other members of the team but they wouldn't hear of it. I suppose there just isn't enough of me to go around, (but I did try people!).

I haven't even listen to all of the CDs, but what I have heard brings back great memories of what I couldn't find anywhere else on CD. It's a great collection of work along with behind the scenes studio recordings. Recommended for any Beach Boys casual or die hard fan.

The Warmth of the Sun

Personally speaking, most of my favorite BB songs are included on this extraordinary compilation. It's a nice package to add to your CD collection if you're a Beach Boys fan. Some of their best work is included here. Although, I would have left off 409, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Then I Kissed Her and California Dreamin' and replaced them with Darlin', Heroes & Villains, I Can Hear Music and the stereo version of Good Vibrations. For me, that would have been the perfect Beach Boys CD. However, this one comes pretty close. Close your eyes, turn it up and let the lush, layered harmonies take you back to a summer past. These guys were arguably the second most important pop music band in history, but sadly enough were and always will be in the Beatles' shadow.
