What an experience!!! I finally got this CD yesterday. I'm speechless. I couldn't stop listening to it. The "Funeral Dirge" (Track 12) brought tears to my eyes. I'll buy at least a dozen copies for friends.

If you're looking for the CD that has "Chaiyya Chaiyya Bollywood Joint" on it from A. R. Rahman, then you found it. It's an addictive song. However, I should've paid more attention to the description of the Inside Man CD. It's a score, not a soundtrack; meaning there are blips of instrumental music punctuated by only one memorable song. If you're interested in musical scores, then perhaps you will appreciate it. If you're interested in Chaiyya Chaiyya, then spend more time searching for A. R. Rahman and be willing to explore other Bollywood soundtracks and compilations. I'm wary of CDs now that don't allow for downloading individual songs or don't provide a preview of each track. As for Inside Man, I loved the movie and continue to press replay on ... Read More:

This is great. Only musicians of this caliber could explore Blanchard's compositions to this extent without diverging too far to miss the intent of each tune. The lone naysayer's soul needs reviving in their comment on emotional content as this is all emotion from head to solo. Only one who is truly oblivious to an entire spectrum of existence could suggest there is no emotion in these performances. Don't think, just listen and enjoy. And to the naysayer, there is more to life than just Hans Zimmer.

One star cause it doesn't have the songs I'm looking for, great movie though. thanks to those you posted where the club scene songs can be found, but where can we get the actual mix that was played while Naturelle and Marie were dancing? That is not on the CDs mentioned below....

If I wanted to listen to smooth jazz I would just find the lame station here in NOLA
Mr. Blanchard suns one in live venues, but the last few longplayers have slud down to
dis and not ever going to rebound. Please Mister throw us something like real Jazz??

Terence Blanchard is undoubtedly one of the top jazz performers of our time, regardless of instrument. However (and this is just my opinion), I don't care much for his original material. I much prefer releases in which he interprets other writers' works (e.g., The Billie Holliday Songbook, The Heart Speaks). So you can only imagine how much I enjoy listening to Let's Get Lost. This CD is outstanding not just in the interpretations, arrangements and production (all are flawless), but Blanchard has surrounded himself with four wonderful vocalists to support his vision of McHugh's standards.
This is one of my favorite late-night CD's. Blanchard's tone, as always, is pure, clean and sweet. I was introduced to several McHugh songs that I hadn't ... Read More:

Terence Blanchard is an artist that I have always been drawn to. From first hearing him on Music From Mo' Better Blues (1990 Film), then on the score of Sugar Hill (1994) to his other film score likeTerence Blanchard's Original Orchestral Score From The Motion Picture Clockers, he has a wide and varied career. This, his second CD for the famous Blue Note label, is a jazz musical adventure. Produced by the great Herbie Hancock, things kick off with Flow ( Part 1), which is a sparse piece, with a haunting baseline, that has Terence meandering in & out of this song. Haunting. Wadagbe (intro) precedes the same full length tune that has African sounding vocals introducing this, before Terence comes in and takes control.
'Benny's Tune' is an altogether different ... Read More:

Jazz trumpeter and all-round music maestro Terence Blanchard puts his magical spin on 9 movie themes on this album from 1999 and I found it a delight all the way through. Some of the themes ("A Streetcar Named Desire", "The Pawnbroker", "Taxi Driver", "Clockers") I was already quite familiar with but most of the others were completely new to me. Blanchard's production is spot on and his arrangements and his lush, swelling orchestrations (conducted by J.A.C. Redford & Steven Mercurio) are just spellbinding. The whole affair is not quite on the same level as his recent A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina) album (I still feel that that one is nothing less than a masterpiece) but it still very much merits a whole five stars.
He's joined here by (the legendary) ... Read More:
