Renegade probaly the only good song these guys have ever recorded and it should of stayed that way. These guys are pretty crappy compared too most 70s rock bands and sound the same as the sounds of kansas reo speedwagon stuff like that is OKAY but in small amounts. personally STYX just sound the same every song Come Sail Away is only the worse song i've ever heard in my life. A forgotten band that is only remembered by cheap complimations and people downloading Renegade off the internet or itunes. Ehhh go for some actullay good stuff like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, or Pink Floyd.

If you don't have Styx's 1977 'The Grand Illusion' in your collection, than you are really missing out. While Styx were somewhat famous before, 'The Grand Illusion' was their breakthrough record. Songs like 'The Grand Illusion' and 'Come Sail Away' are played on classic rock radio stations all the time.
And it's not hard to see why. Styx rocked. They were a perfect blend of soft ballads (many were dedicated to Dennis DeYoung's wife, Suzanne) and hard rock tunes.
I know, so far, this isn't much of a review. But that's going to change right now.
So, here it is. The album by album, track by track review.
1. The Grand Illusion And so begins Styx's masterpiece. This song is probably my favorite song ... Read More:

They improved up to Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight then tanked after that, then just went off the deep end. Face it they peaked years ago and are running on fumes. Mr Roboto? Pure crap. I can't listen to anything past Pieces of Eight. It's worthless. I don't even know what Denis Deyoung is doing now, writing show tunes? They blew it big time.
Release Date October 25, 1990
I bought this one for a few songs. Pieces of Eight and Queen of Spades are the best of them. About half the songs are good. This one is for fans or those who were teens in the 70s

I agree with the review by D. Hunter (see below). I wouldn't start with this album, but once you've covered the basics (I.E. Greatest Hits, Grand Illussion, etc.) I think this album is a natural progression and is an excellent album. I don't even consider it a risky album for the band. It was a natural progression for them as the early to mid-80s rolled around. I remember hearing Mr Roboto on the radio when I was in elementary school and thinking it was a very cool song. Is this album as timeless as Grand Illusion? No. It's not a classic rock album. But, again, this album doesn't have a bad song on it and is a natural progression of the band's sound. It's truly a very solid album and in some ways a very tradtional STYX album.

This is considered to be Styx's transition album released shortly before Tommy Shaw arrived (JC plays on Equinox). It contains haunting reminders of The Serpent Is Rising, but with a slightly more straight ahead rock direction. Fortunately none of these songs were never really overplayed on the radio, therefore they have aged gracefully and have a refreshing sound. Favorite songs are Lorelei, Lonely Child, Midnight Ride, and the great classic Prelude 12 / Suite Madame Blue.

What a treat to get all of this great music (4 seperate recordings) on a 2-disc compliation. Not only can we hear the origins of one of the quintessential rock bands of the 70's and 80's (arguably the decades of the greatest output of rock music) but we get some absolute musical gems that stand alone as testament to the genius of the men behind the band.
From "Quick is the Beat of my Heart" and the funky/bluesy cover of George Clinton's "After You Leave Me", to the quirky "You Better Ask", "The Serpent is Rising", and the always funny "Plexiglass Toilet", we get the evolution of a great band that helped define an entire era of rock and roll. Like them or not, here is the historic struggle that gave STYX the backbone and experience to evolve into one of the best selling rock ... Read More:

This is a great cd! I had it on vinyl for years, and just now got it on cd! It sounds even better than before! Thanks for a great product!

Formerly known as "Come Sail Away:The Styx Anthology", this is the definitive collection of Styx's best known hits and selected album cuts. It also includes material from their Wooden Nickel days (pre-Tommy Shaw) so you get the original version of their first Top Ten hit "Lady". The set ends with a track from the '03 album "Cyclorama", their first album after Dennis DeYoung's departure. Since there's no boxed set from them (yet),this is the place to go for the ultimate Styx collection. (because the hits "Why Me" and "Don't Let It End" were left off, my rating is actually 4.75 stars)
