When I first saw this movie I was 9. It was so incredible. Now I'm 19 and the movie is still my number 1. I watch it all the time. I only recently bought the soundtrack, but I love it so much! Its beautiful and enchanting. My favorite songs are "In the Dark of the Night" and "A Rumor in St. Petersburg". Absolutely fantastic. 5 stars.

I'm guessing that this review is about the person/group who sent me this item and if that's the case, then I'm happy to write that I received this anticipated product in a timely manner. It was well protected and came in perfect condition.

If this is about the actual product...I suggest that the purchaser should have seen the Musical prior to purchasing the CD. I watched it with my students then purchased the CD and we are all very happy.

Once On This Island (1990 Original Broadway Cast)

This review will probably get a lot of "not helpful" responses, because it does not agree that "Once on This Island" is the best thing for Broadway musicals since sliced bread.
First, and positively, it begins with an excellent story. But in this case, I believe it was the story, not the music, that carried the show to a respectable 469 performances in 1990.
For the most part, I found the music to be repetitive. I felt as if I had listened to the same thing over and over. I also sensed some obvious influences from "Pacific Overtures."

I'll admit it: I was coerced into participating in a local production of Titanic The Musical recently and while I never had, nor do I have any desires to perform on stage, I almost reluctantly fell in love with this incredibly moving story that involves an absolutely amazing musical score. I played Benjamin Guggenheim, who along with some of the most famous millionaires in the world (John Jacob Astor, George Widener and the Thayers, literally the Bill Gates and Donald Trumps of their day) died as the Largest Moving Object on the earth slipped beneath the waves, April 15th 1912.

Bryn Terfel and Renee Fleming have two of the best voices in classical music, and clearly they bring an incomparable luster, richness, and sense of melodic beauty to these Broadway songs.

The main problems on this CD are that they are divorced from their original contexts within the shows, having more pop-sounding orchestrations. Hence, the duet of "All I Ask of You" is no longer between Christine Daae and her handsome suitor Raul in "Phantom of the Opera" but becomes a generic love duet, and one misses Sarah Brightman's genuinely "smaller," more delicate, ingenue-sounding interpretation.
