Wonderful and relaxing music. Very soft, wonderful sound tracks. There are two soundtracks of "The Girl From Ipanema," with the first being the ultimate recording. I would highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys cool jazz or any relaxing International-style music.

Jazz Samba

by: Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd

Release Date May 20, 1997
Want to know what the world was like in 1963, in San Francisco, on sunny afternoons, when all the windows were open on a garden from a small apartment high on the Ashbury Street Hill where Anne and Stan Rice lived and wrote? --- Before the Flower Children came. ---- Then listen to this classic album, the album that defined "jazz" for me more than bossa nova. It was an album that made me want to flee the foggy streets of San Francisco, put on khaki clothes and drift south. It took me well over twenty years to get to Brazil, and the tunes were no longer in my head. Don't know who Stan and Anne are? No surprise. --- They were young writers, dreamers and students. ---- Just wanted to make this review a little reflective of what those moments ... Read More:

Getz Gilberto

by: Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto

Release Date October 29, 2002
Upon hearing the original vinyl pressing, I wanted to have a copy to put my SACD player to use. I was very disappointed in the mastering of this SACD. THe recording levels were much too high, and there was no dynamic range to speak of. There were even times that I could notice distortion. THis was regardless of volume level or between the high end sony and toshiba players.

Go out and get the original vinyl, and made sure verve records didn't produce it.

CD-Charts Music : Jazz Samba Encore!

Jazz Samba Encore!

by: Stan Getz, Luiz Bonfa

Release Date October 25, 1990
This'll probably be one of my shorter reviews mainly because I love this album, and there's little more that I can add to that. This is Jazz Samba Encore, this time featuring Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfa (Orfeu Negro, Luiz Bonfa Sings & Plays, etc.). Also featured here is Maria Toledo, Luiz Bonfa's then wife (I'm not sure if they are still married).

This is an amazing album, and a must have. The music is wonderful... very gentle, extremely clear, and very sincere. Featured here is a haunting version of "Sambalero" to open up the gentle adventure followed by 10 more incredible tracks. Gentle sax, perfect marriage between his tone and Luiz Bonfa's guitar. The music evokes an image, and the timing and musicianship grabs me every time I ... Read More:

Getz for Lovers

by: Stan Getz

Release Date January 15, 2002
In a breathe; you know when you first get a CD, you play it over and over and over for about two or three weeks, then you put it away-Only to pull it out from time to time. I just can't; for the life of me, seem to be able to put this beguiling CD away. I am truly affixed by the intrinsic state I provisionally inherit each and every time I garner my surroundings with the music from this CD. I am literally tethered to the splendor of this CD and all that it entails. Simply stated: If you're looking to settle down after a tough day at the office; than "Getz For Lovers" is exactly what' required-Chardonnay is optional.

In my opinion "Getz For Lovers" is nothing less than a "Magnum Opus".

SINCERELY:

CD-Charts Music : Stan Getz's Finest Hour

Stan Getz's Finest Hour

by: Stan Getz

Release Date June 13, 2000
"The Sound", or "Stanley the Steamer" as Stan Getz was known, had a pleasing technique and perfect control of his sax. He was much more popular, that is, sold much more albums than his contemporaries with the possible exception of Miles Davis. He was so popular that many critics of the time, and jealous musicians, dismissed his works as too pop. But behind that apparent ease of play and beautiful, buttered, golden tone is perhaps the greatest sax player of all time, who focused his attention not on innovation or writing but expressive playing. John Coltrane once said, "We'd all play like Getz.. if we could". Beauty, sweetness, tinged with melancholy and sadness, perhaps looking back to better times.

Getz played like he was not playing an instrument ... Read More:

Jazz Giants '58

by: Stan Getz

Release Date March 18, 2008
I don't where these other reviewers are coming from. They are probably hired guns. This is obviously Mulligan's date as the opening of Chocolate Sundae would indicate. Getz is content to play hard bop sideman type choruses on what could be a C melody Tenor Sax. It's good but he's not the star. It's a great session never the less.If you're not tone deaf to the Baritone Sax and want more Mulligan with this tone and this type of groove, with no other major soloist except the pianist try JERU,MIDAS TOUCH and DREAM A LITTLE DREAM. Also with Dave Brubeck- AT THE BERLIN PHILHARMONIC. Gerry used a stiffer reed for a more refined sound on his Concert Jazz Band recordings and seems to be playing with it on Dave Brubeck's THE LAST SET AT NEWPORT and WE'RE ALL TOGETHER AGAIN FOR THE ... Getz Plays Jobim: The Girl from Ipanema

by: Stan Getz

Release Date February 26, 2002
I enjoy this CD so much. It's really mellow. I picture myself walking around little streets in Europe listening to this. I can't help but grin when I play it. It's a nice departure from a lot of stuff that's out these days.
