Those of you who know Squeeze know what a solid group they were with excellent song craftsmanship. Consider buying this Millennium reissue of what is in essence their greatest hits. The sound here is considerably better than the originally issued cd. I know, I bought this reissue with the sole purpose of getting a better sounding cd than the original release. I compared them song by song and there was no contest. Of course the remaster doesn't turn this cd into a sonic masterpiece like Dark Side of the Moon. But, if you are a Squeeze fan it is worth a repurchase.

Without doubt, Argybargy was Squeeze's best album. Intelligent, catchy, witty, and most importantly lots of fun. Casual fans need only their Greatest Hits collection, but if you want to delve a little deeper, Argybargy is the one you want.

Not one of their best, but still deserves some accolades for such tracks as the catchy "I Can't Hold On" and the refined "Points Of View". But the albums highlight is the exceptional back-to-back sexy Sunday morning vibe of "When The Hangover Strikes" and "Black Coffee In Bed". Listen closely and you can hear Elvis Costello and Paul Young wailing away in the background.

"Cool For Cats" is the album where Squeeze hit their stride, when Difford & Tilbrook were mentioned in the same sentences with Lennon & McCartney.
In retrospect, that seems hyperbolic, but I couldn't resist falling in love with this album. And Squeeze in general. Squeeze was a band to love.
As other reviewers have noted, the production here shows its' age, and it really wasn't that spectacular to begin with. This remaster (finally, thank you very much) presents the album as clean as it's ever gonna get.
You'll hardly notice, as the sheer tunefulness of these songs...the melodies that firmly lodge in your brain, the harmonies very suggestive of those Fab Four, the dizzying piano fills, locomotive drumming...it's ... Read More:

After the lush production of the 2 previous albums, Squeeze stripped down to quite a live sound for Frank. There are very few additional instruments, and it's straight ahead rock and roll, from five brilliant musicians in the same room. The piano and lead guitar and especially good, and sound as if you're sat right next to the band on this album.
As usual with Squeeze, every song is wonderful, and I really can't agree that it has filler.... Personally, I prefer Play, but much prefer Frank to Some Fantastic Place.
Apart from a few pop songs on side one, the album is mostly American styled R&B (Perhaps to keep Jools Holland happy?). My only criticism is that it has too many songs in the same genre, while the classic Squeeze albums go through every ... Read More:

Squeeze was a progressive pop band that formed out of the burgeoning punk/new wave era of the mid-late 1970s. Though they had limited commercial success in the U.S.A., they did score big with this release and its attendant hit single "Tempted," aided by the temporary addition of ex-Ace lead singer Paul Carrack.
The band's success never quite eclipsed this masterpiece of pop textures, ranging from fast-paced rock'n'roll ("Is That Love?") to blue-eyed soul ("Tempted") to sudden Beatlesque bursts of pop psychedelia ("F-Hole" and "There's No Tomorrow"), rockabilly ("Messed Around", love ballads ("Vanity Fair") and even country-and-western ("Labelled With Love"). This latest contribution was no doubt influenced by the record's flamboyant producer and Liverpool stablemate ... Read More:

Not sure what was in the water but "Strking Matches" sounds exactly like it came off of the Talking Head's album "True Stories". Not familiar enough with Squeeze to say one way or another but, maybe the Heads sounded like Squeeze on that album?
