Stronger

by: Sonny Burgess

Release Date October 04, 2005
Prime Times: Anytime I'm Smiling, Redneck Lullabies, You Touched Me

Though all of these songs are fairly new compositions, they sound like they have weathered the passage of time with the copacetic timbre that only the classics possessed. And a look at the album's liner notes conspicuously reveals why: with songs coming from song writers such as Paul Overstreet, Chris Waters Dunn, Aaron Barker, John Jarrard, Buck Moore and Leslie Satcher, it's no wonder why this is such a classy CD. What is more even remarkable is that these maestros have enough faith to entrust their work of art to a relatively newcomer in Sonny Burgess. Burgess, a Cleburne Texas native, has a pretty sturdy tenor packed with personality and he's particularly ... Read More:

The Classic Recordings 1956-1959

by: Sonny Burgess

Release Date September 05, 1994
The throbbing muscle of the guitar and drums, the joyful been there done that bragging vocals, then the BRAP BRAP of the trumpet makes this some fine rockin music indeed. This is R&B heaped up with Hillbilly Boogie at it's finest. Think Louis JOrdan going on a bender with the Delmore Brothers.

Sonny Burgess

Release Date June 18, 1996
Am buying this on the strength of "Tiger Rose" being included on a double CD; 'Essential Southern Rock'. Springsteen wrote it for him, or at least gave it to him to release. There's hero worship here, by the looks. No wonder. The Tele work on this track epitomises everything that's simple, yet subtle and great about rockabilly. And the voice. I've at times pressed the repeat button 2 or 3 times in the car. A mood lifter...transports one...

CD-Charts Music : When in Texas

When in Texas

by: Sonny Burgess

Release Date October 24, 2000
Although this CD first came out 4 years ago, it's well worth getting today if you can. Home grown in Cleburne Texas, Sonny Burgess is a traditional Texas Country music singer with a great voice and a great country sound. If you're tired of Nash-pop, and long for the traditional Texas honky-tonk sound, you'll love the songs on "When in Texas". Although Sonny will be releasing a new CD shortly, this one is a classic.

Arkansas Rock 'N' Roll

by: Sonny Burgess

Release Date December 12, 2000
Lousy, that's the only way I can describe this LP. It starts off on a high note with an interesting rendition of "We Wanna Boogie". But it's all down hill after that. There are no hilights after the first track. On Sun Records Sonny had a unique sound. On this recording he's ripping off everyone from LLoyd Price to Elvis, Fats Domino, Larry Williams, and isn't as good as any of them. If you love Sonny's music, as I do, get the two CD set the Complete Sun Recordings 1956-59. That is a great CD set, despite leaving off four of Sonny's Sun Record recordings. Sorry, Sonny, mate, I love your music, but not this lame CD.

Arkansas Wild Man

by: Sonny Burgess

Release Date August 26, 2008
Rockin' wild man with red-dyed hair and wild stage performances he is one of the wildest rockers to record for the legendary Sun label. It's rumoured that Elvis recorded "So Glad You're Mine" and "One Night" after he heard Sonny's versions.

from: Bear Family

Release Date May 17, 2000
(Actual rating would be 3 and a half stars) Bear Family's 17th entry in this series, this is a mostly well chosen compilation of unreleased, alternate, and unknown Sun recordings. Several of the offerings on here are anonymous demos that were found in the Sun records vaults, others are demo recordings sent in to Sun in hopes of cutting an actual rating, and the rest are either unreleased demos by Sun artists or alternate versions of Sun singles. You get 34 songs and a great booklet with super liner notes. The majority of the songs are pretty good, with a handfull of real gems. I'm especially partial to Ray Harris' propulsive version of "Greenback Dollar", Alton and Jimmy's "No More Cryin the Blues", the Charlie Rich demos, both Jerry Arnold tunes("Little ... Read More:
