Simply the best. I got tired of waiting for Volume II and started making my own for friends and family (particularly for my Dad, Eddie H., who always loved this one).

by: The Skeletons

Release Date September 18, 1993
Prior to the Skeletons, guitarist D. Clinton Thompson (who also served in the Ozark Mountain Daredevils) and bassist Lou Whitney (producer of the first Del-Lords album) played together in a variety of lineups, including the pride of Springfield, MO -- The Morells. The former's superb "Driving Guitars" 45 rescued a swell Ventures tune from obscurity, and the pair has continued to mine the vaults of rock, R&B, and country arcana for some minor classics (unearthing tunes, as Robert Christgau put it, "Dave Edmunds would give his doctorate for") and the inspiration to pen their own instant winners.

The 'Rockin' Bones' LP (1987) compiled the entire contents of the band's original three pre-Morells singles (from '79-'80, after which three ... Read More:

by: Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton

Release Date July 24, 2007
My favorite part of any thing she's a part of (Metric, Broken Social Scene, and Stars) is Emily Haines. She has a killer voice and writes excellent lyrics. I love every track on this album. If you haven't heard her solo stuff before (or even if you have) and enjoy any of the above bands, don't hesitate making this purchase.

Nothing to Lose

by: The Skeletons

Release Date April 22, 1997
In 1979 Steve Forbert started gathering musicians to form a new backing band to go on tour with him that year. After the Forbert tour, these guys decided they wanted to stay together, so they started this band the Skeletons. All I can say is thank you Steve Forbert! The Skeletons have quietly rolled along touring and recording great little indie records over the years since 1979. They are a well respected and sought after band who have backed artists such as Dave Alvin, Syd Straw on her classic album "War and Peace", and bluesman Clarence Brewer on his album "King Clarence", which is a gem of an album. In 1997 the Skeletons recorded "Nothing To Lose", which sounds like a very appropriate title for this little known bands newest record. With the bigger ... Read More:

by: Skeleton Key

Release Date March 25, 1997
this album should have been huge, what a shame for the world of music. primus-esque funk, punk and metal brilliantly blended mad carnival barker vocals, astounding and arresting lyrics...somebody put this back in print so I don't have to spend 50 bucks to get the amazing original packaging!

by: Skeleton Crew

Release Date February 14, 2006
Fred Frith has re-released the two Skeleton Crew (Fred & Tom Cora with Zeena Parkins on #2) LPs in deluxe sound and with bonus tracks. I think(?) this basically releases everything they recorded, doesn't it?

Anyway the sound is magnificent, the music is terrific and the chance to have everything together in one boxed set is not to be missed. Tom, we miss you buddy.
