I'm a bit of a completist, but I don't buy "best ofs" or "greatest hits" collections for the songs I already have. I get them (used, whenever possible) for the bonus material they add to get suckers like me to buy something again I already have 90% of it. This one is different though.
I welcomed this release as an opportunity to make space on my CD rack by removing many compilations which I had only purchased for the exclusive 6pence track. Goodbye "Dick" soundtrack, no more having to explain your presence. But there are still plenty of CDs that I could have parted with as well, had the songs been included here. The "Bounce" soundtrack, the single for "Us" live on the Today Show(!) are two off the top of my head.

Sixpence None the Richer was a cd I had back in the day and I am glad I threw it in the trash. Kiss Me and Love are the only decent tracks, the rest of the album is dreadful and forgettable. Don't waste your money on this lame fluff, you'll thank me later.

In 1995, this album felt like a natural progression from "the Fatherless and the Widow," just as that album had evolved from "the Original Demos." When their eponymous album was released, it seemed like an odd tangent. Now that we can look back over the entire catalog of Sixpence's songs (and it's sad that we can do so already), it is more clear that it was "This Beautiful Mess" that was a departure from the core of what Sixpence has become. Of course, there were occasional glimpses of Sixpence as a rock band, such as "Sad But True" and "Paralyzed," but for more than a decade I have longed for more of what this album gave me. Anytime I play this CD, I am instantly transported to the time I first became acquainted with this brilliant album, to the ... Read More:

My younger brother gave this CD to me as a gift years ago and I have passed it on to both my older siblings during difficult times in their lives. The song "Job" is both poignant and worshipful. "All I need " is also so beautifully done... proclaiming that "the only thing I need I already have...". The last couple of instrumental songs are so soothing and restful. I would highly recommend to anyone, but particularly those who find themselves in a place of pain and suffering. YOU WILL BE BLESSED!

Why did this band Break up!?!?!? I'm suprised that these earlier Sixpence records didn't get the airtime it deserved on the radio. Sixpence SHOULD be the hottest thing right now if it weren't for their hiatus.
This Album is Great! Get this + This Beautiful Mess + Divine Discontent + The self Titled... It's Worth ALL of the Money, Trust Me... You won't be disappointed, and You might never experience the sight of this band ever again...:(

"Tickets for a Prayer Wheel" is a 10 track "EP" single, which at 44 min. playing time, gives us an album's worth of hits and misses. Built around the single "Within a Room Somewhere" (off of the "This Beautiful Mess" 1995 album), this is truly a mixed bag of some great and not-so-great Sixpence tunes.
The single itself "Within a Room Somewhere", a great tune, is served up twice, in a Radio Edit and a Demo version. So far, so good. "Healer" is the best track, the upbeat Matt Slocum song that defines the Sixpence sound we all love. After that, it's up and down, quite honestly, with several instrumentals, "Solomon" being the best of them. The 2 "hidden" tracks make me scratch my head, in particular the closer, which is some super-charged techno-beat track, ... Read More:

I absolutely love Sixpence None the Richer's rendition of,"Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House. It's beautiful...the band's instrumental ingenuity of the song...it's melodies and lyrics counteract each other. The lyrics alone are sad and soulful, but the way they are sung in the song keep it upbeat. In a way, the song itself has a "haunting" quality about it. I also enjoy how the band was able to take an '80s classic and modernize it into a beautiful ballad. A perfect fit to the soundtrack of,"How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days." Listen to the song and you will be hooked.

Quite a few fans have posted negative reviews of this compilation, and they're right. Although a number of Sixpence's stellar tracks made it onto the disc, it's mostly a tired collection of stuff-found-on-old-comps.
R.E.X. records, Sixpence's former label, kept the band in hellish limbo for three years after a nasty bankruptcy. Unable to escape their contract, but lacking the funds to produce or market a new CD, Sixpence languished for years between This Beautiful Mess and their self-titled release. Veteran artist Steve Taylor eventually bought their contract from REX's husk, fronted the money to record their self-titled release, and helped produce the CD.
Of course, REX still owns the rights to Sixpence's older songs -- and when they jumped into ... Read More:

"Breathe Your Name" is excellent, of course. But we have that on _Divine Discontent_ so the real allure here is "Northern Lights", and it's absolutely brilliant. The dreamy, glittering pop production of _Divine Discontent_ with some of the most beautiful guitars in their entire catalog, it's about as enjoyable as music can be. And the vocal melodies and Leigh Nash's voice are enchanting. Is it worth it for the one song? Yes. buy it else you will not be as happy as you would be if you had it.
