"Nine Destinies and a Downfall" is the third full-length album by Sirenia, the gothic metal band founded by Morten Veland in 2001 after his stint with Tristiana. It differs substantially from their earlier work, featuring female-fronted vocals almost exclusively. This is in sharp contrast to the male death grunts that dominated Sirenia's first two albums.
Because of this stylistic difference, "Nine Destinies and a Downfall" didn't appeal to many fans of Sirenia's previous work. However, fans of other female-fronted metal bands (such as Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Eyes of Eden, and Nightwish) enjoyed the album quite a bit.
From a technical standpoint, "Nine Destinies and a Downfall" is very solid, featuring a ... Read More:

This is one of my favorite albums. I consider this album to be a Masterpiece of Gothic Proportions. I find Veland doing a good job balancing between clean vocal and death grunt with female vocal. I thought he hit the balance very well, I like his death grunt!
The female singer has the most beautiful voice of anyone i have heard in quite awhile and she compliments the album very well, I think she makes the album!!!
Between her voice and Veland's this album is one of my favorites. Veland song writing portrays an intelligence that is not found in many song writers and bands today. I would classify Veland with Eric Clayton of Savioour Machine, both bring in an intelligence that is severely lacking in music today.

A very good album. Their nothing in this album that would really dissapoint the listener. The lyrics are very well written as well as the music. Morten vocals are very powerful in this album. I love Henritte vocals, even though she wouldn't sing a lot, but its really good. Favorite song out of it is Lithium and a Lover amd Euphoria.

Another great band in the history of Music. In my country, this kind of Music is not listened as much as "Reggaeton", "Vallenato" and "Pop". But people who likes this kind of music agree with me. I use to collect the complete discography of the bands I like such as "Nightwish", "After Forever", "Epica", "Odes Of Ecstasy", "Penumbra", "Haggard", "To Die For", etc... There are a lot of good artists who play different genres, styles, etc... but "Gothic Metal" and "Doom Metal" bands are a big revolution.

Pros: Energizing instrumentals, good singing, and surprisingly well-done growls.
Cons: Some of the lyrics are generic and the title track isn't very strong.
The Bottom Line: Pretty good debut CD from Sirenia.
This CD was a surprise for me on so many levels. I'll be honest here: usually I hate a lot of male death growls. Yet, oddly enough, that's partly what makes this very enjoyable.
The Good: Male growls are one thing, as I already said. They're more clean then most male growls. This is nice because I would rather be able to understand what is being sung, then hear random shouting to the beat. (It's a pet peeve of mine when it comes to music. I can't help it.)
The Female vocals are excellent: Fabienne ... Read More:
