Here is a nice mix of Serge at his loosest and wackiest moments. This is a good mix. I very much enjoy it. What am I saying, these songs are fantastic. The piano, the crazy back up vocals and Shu Ba Du's. The horns, bizarre pre-rap off style duets, crazy strings. Songs about cars, songs about jerks, songs about bank robbers, songs about suicide, and, of course, songs about love. basically everything that's needed to give you a good time in music listening. If you are one of those people who fell in love with Melody Nelson but lack exposure to anything else of old S.G., and are willing to try a more fun loving out of your mind side, then here take this put it in your music listening device and have a good time. Go ahead, all the kids are doing it.

Fine (but not perfect) compilation of his best works.
Good booklet.
"Harley David.. son of a bitch" (my favourite)is missing and many other fine tracks.
Perhaps you need also Serge Gainsbourg Volume 1-3 or some specific records.

Le Divorce: The Original Soundtrack Album

Don't be fooled by the soundtrack listing nor by the other reviews. There are "hidden" tracks on this CD. I mainly bought it for Qu'est-ce qu'on attend pour être heureux. I wasn't thrilled by some of the score, but overall it's a good CD.

This CD showcases the best of Serge, in my opinion.

Somehow I think that Serge loved this period best. I think that this is where his heart was - long before he turned into Gainsbarre and the late 60s - 80s.

The song "Couleur Cafe" itself is an enduring classic of French popular music. To this day one can still hear it being played on the radio in France.

Master Series: The Best of Serge Gainsbourg

Some of the best songs Serge Gainsbourg ever recorded are on this double CD. Unfortunately there are also many cuts from 1981-1987 and these sound pretty outdated. If you really wanna hear Serge at his best buy the "Comic Strip" collection or one of his regular albums like "Histoire de Melody Nelson" or "l'Homme a tete de chou".
