This album grows and grows and grows on me, as if there's a system to it.
Sure, much has been made of working with a different producer for the first time (the brilliant Trevor Horn produced Seal's first 4 studio albums). But that's not what makes this album so great.
Rather, it's the writing. Whereas every Seal album since his debut seemed to go downhill, the writing here is so consistently strong, with great melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.
And the passion is back. On Seal's debut album, I often felt as if this young man with a huge soul was brought off the street straight into the studio, and laid down all emotions, raw and otherwise. On subsequent albums, the club scene and snowboarding and supermodels ... Read More:

This is a great CD. I bought this for my mother at Christmas-she just loves it. Finding this was so easy-I don't like to drive all over town(s)to hunt something down-I never do find what I'm looking for. Thanks Amazon for being so easy and priced great.

Back at the dawn of the CD age it was common practice for the major distributors like Warner, Universal, Sony/BMG, etc., to release digital versions of earlier vinyl LPs, without adding anything in the way of bonus tracks or liner notes. Sort of a "here it is - take it or leave it" attitude. And that worked for the first few years when CDs were still a novelty, and there was little or no competition from distributors abroad.
But with the advent of Ace of London, Bear Family of Germany, and others of that ilk, where the copyright laws are considerably different in terms of their length, we started to see 20- to 30-track volumes, most with excellent sound reproduction and pages and pages of informative notes and discographies. In the meantime, ... Read More:

I've had Seal IV since a few days after the release in 2003 and to this day, I still get chills when I dust it off and play it. This is hands down, one of the most prolific CDs of all time. There's masterpiece after masterpiece on this piece of artistry.
"Don't Make me Wait" - Old soul sound, oh so great
"Waiting for you" - This song starts me on my day
"Touch" - Haunting, seductive, smooth....
"Lonliest Star from the Sun" - Arrangements and lyrics are masterful
Tinseltown - Soothing but brutally honest

One morning last month, I woke up and couldn't get "Kiss From a Rose" out of my head. Two days later, I went out and bought it. I'm so mad I didn't get it when it first came out. I knew about Seal, and I heard his music, but I didn't own any of his music. Needless to say, I am currently purchasing his entire discography. My favorites: "Bring It On" get's me started in the morning. "Dreaming in Metaphors" really makes you think. Every cut is great outstanding!

In an age where pop music goes out of date rather quickly, Seal overcame the odds and created something that has stood the test of time. When you pop a CD in 17 years after it's been recorded and it sounds brilliant - well, it deserves a review here doesn't it?
In fact, Seal's debut was so good that it was hard to improve on. Seal has never quite matched subsequent efforts with his first album's iconic status despite building a stellar career. "Crazy" and "Killer" and "Future Love Paradise" have become anthems across clubs and continents. Hats off to producer Trevor Horn for nailing this.
If you could or must get one Seal album, this is the one. The voice, the man, the songwriting, the production - everything was so ahead of its contemporaries ... Read More:
