I have loved Sarah McLachlan's work since she did a song called "Shelter"
for an In Defense of Animals cd in 1993. I love the songs on this cd, but OUCH what's up with these re-mixes? The songs were lovely as they were. These re-mixes warp the songs towards some kind of quazi disco sort of thing. I gave it a 3 because she is an incredible artist, but I find this cd very disappointing.

When I heard that Arista was releasing a "best of" disc I wondered just one thing.....why? I own all of her studio and live releases and every CD single and promo release that's been issued. When I saw the track listing for the 2-disc set of this new hits collection I immediately decided to purchase it. I based my decision on the fact that remastered versions of I Will Remember You and the radio remix of Hold On would be on the second disc. Elated on the day of it's release, I go out and make my purchase at Best Buy only to find that the track "Hold On (Radio Remix)" is NOT in fact the remix. It's just a repeat of the album version found on disc one. I know this because I have the Tom Lord-Alge remix on an older promo CD single of lesser sound ... Read More:

RARITIES, B-Sides, & OTHER STUFF volume 2 is a collection of tracks either by Sarah McLachlan herself or featured her gentle vocals. A lot of the songs can be found on compilations like FOR THE CHILDREN which "The Rainbow Connection" could be found on. As a long time fan of Sarah McLachlan's music, I had to check out this sequel to her first compilation of rare tracks and b-sides. For the most part I did like the cd but there are moments that makes me cringe and wonder what was she thinking. I absolutely despised the massacre of Harry Chapin's "Cat in the Cradle" re-titled "Just Like Me" which featured rapper DMC. Horrible doesn't even cover the description. Surfacing

The hauntingly beautiful voice of Sarah MacLachlan, along with the beautiful words and melodies make this an A-one CD. The song "Angels" is my favorite, and I listen to it over and over again.

Compared to its population, Canada is blessed with a disproportionate great number of talented performance artists - and Sarah McLachlan is one of the best examples.
Maybe they are inspired by the endless expanses of the Great North and the blandness of the Toronto sprawl; maybe it is the eternal adolescence of the Canadian psyche or the freshly disillusioned naiveté of a nation of great poets and dreamers bordering a militaristic giant. Who knows...

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

I've read some very well thought out and critical comments for other albums on here that speak of the artists talents, shortcomings, etc. This isn't one of those, mine is all about emotion. Listening to this album is almost a rapturous experience for me. This music, the voice, the lyrics...they reach so very deep into me and stir otherwise sleeping feelings of love, desire, fear, loss and the unique pleasure of merciful solitude.

I remember the sound almost a decade ago. The beauty of her voice, her heart-wrenching lyrics. She was the diva at the turn of the century! She is still the model for pop/rock/folk singer-songwriters today. This album is simply stunning.

Lovely CD and voice. Husband loves Sarah, we saw her at the Beacon years ago. He also loves the holidays, this was the perfect gift for the holiday season.
