Longest Adagio, I have ever heard. Endless. Perfect for funerals.

Classical Music for People Who Hate Classical Music

Release Date June 09, 1994
Cheers to those with drive to attain "real" music student status. However, I just want to listen to music passages I have found enjoyable over the years. There is no pretense of this selection being a student workbook of classical music for the serious scholar - it is just an enjoyable alternative to that shared by those offensively loud vehicles near me at the stoplight.

CD-Charts Music : Barber's Adagio

Barber's Adagio

from: Sony

Release Date October 25, 1990
I purchased this CD only to listen to Samuel Barber's "Adagio For Strings, OP.11". This piece has often be played in funerals. Though I felt drawn to it because of three reasons: 1) The music feels like coming together after a devastating storm has just passed.. 2) The music at times feels like deeply mourning the loss of a dearly loved one ... 3) Play this music when you retire to bed at night.. close your eyes, and relax. The music embraces you and carries you far into the regions of your own heart... what swells thereof you shall see.. Let go, let God, love yourself :-)

Agnus Dei: Music of Inner Harmony: The Choir of New College Oxford

from: Erato

Release Date February 18, 1997
It's funny how over the years you find something special. This is one of those special music moments.

I do think that every person will have one track they like better than others but for me there is one track that just chills you to the bone.

It's worth the money for the whole CD just for the one track.

I just wish this was a 7.1 surround sound recording. I guess one day it will be :o)

100 Best Film Classics

from: Angel Records

Release Date August 29, 2006
As I type the words to this review, I am listening to Nessun dorma (Puccini, Turandof) over and over again from the CD collection I am now writing about. Good music is supposed to inspire, and this one inspires.

This six CD collection is from Best Film 100: The Great Blockbusters, The Classic Movies, Favorite Movies, The Piano at the Cinema, Opera at the Cinema (my favorite), and Baroque Goes to the Cinema.

The ironic part about listening to music from the movies is that it mainly goes unnoticed by people who would never claim to be classical or opera lovers in the first place. I'm sure that Mozart's, "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" fits perfectly in the movie "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," a movie I seem to continually miss, and it ... Read More:

CD-Charts Music : Canadian Brass: Legends

Canadian Brass: Legends

from: OPENING DAY ENT

Release Date May 13, 2008
"The compositions featured on LEGENDS are absolutely essential to appreciating the Canadian Brass legacy." That about sums up this cd.

Fans of the Canadian Brass will find no new compositions on this album but will find new recordings of old standards. I find I prefer some of the original recordings better, but that is only because they are engraved in my mind after years of playback. Even still, these new recordings bring fresh life back to old favorites. I am particularly impressed with the clarity of this album, which seems to surpass even the Canadian Brass standard.

This cd showcases the strengths of the current members of the Canadian Brass and is highly recommended to any fan of brass music.

Barber: Prayers of Kierkegaard/Bartok: Cantata profanna/Vaughan Williams: Dona nobis pacem

from: Telarc

Release Date March 24, 1998
There is nothing really wrong with this recording...in fact it is exemplary.

I wasn't moved by any of the music however, except for Barber's "Kierekgaard Prayers".

If you like Vaughn Williams and you like Britten's War Requiem, than you just might like this. Personally I find it an inferior work (and that is not dissing RVW...I like his music on the whole), and the Bartok work just isn't that interesting.

Don't take my word for it though, and if you feel inclined to buy this disc, then do so...nothing wrong with the performers.
