by: Robert Randolph & The Family Band

Release Date October 10, 2006
I really liked this album. Yes, it goes into a more pop direction...but it still has the RRFB magic in it and god forbid a struggling band should try to get a little success...jesus. I also don't get the lyric bashing from some of these reviewers. I'm not sure what fantasy world they live in, but in reality...not every good song has amazing lyrics. Some songs are just fun to listen to because of the beat or the guitar riff it has. If you guys want music with just solely good lyrics then I would suggest bob dylan or neil young, even though I seriously can't stand neil young at all.

The Word

by: The Word, Robert Randolph

Release Date July 31, 2001
Here's the word. This is pedal steel that outstrips all other albums I've ever heard. There is no nonsensical lyrics about drunks, cheating lovers and no hokum that sounds like the slop on touristy gift store album that is "showcasing" quaint, "local talent". This album is on fire. This Pedal is straight and uncut with only one chaser..the compulsion to play it again.

Live at the Wetlands (Dig)

by: Robert Randolph & Family Band

Release Date September 17, 2002
I first saw Robert and The Family Band on Eric Clapton's Crossroad's DVD (the one in Texas) and he flat wowed me! This is unusual for me now. You see, I'm an old hippie guy and most things new suck (to me). This kid is playing slide like Duane Allman and he's doing it on a George Jones backup pedal steel country friggin' guitar. I buy everything he releases now. I actually had an opportunity to see him locally in a VERY small venue and he and the bass player were walking around in the crowd getting folks to repeat a "hook" in the song he was singing. Very high energy live and he won't disappoint you with this CD either!

Britten: Simple Symphony; Temporal Variations; Suite on English Folk Tunes

from: Naxos

Release Date January 18, 2005
This collection of Benjamin Britten's music spans his career. The earliest work is the Simple Symphony from 1934 which was composed using juvenilia. Britten preserved his compositions from his earliest years and wove these efforts into the charming Simple Symphony for strings or string quartet. The movement titles: Boisterous Bourree, Playful Pizzicato, Sentimental Sarabande and Frolicsome Finale indicate the childhood origins of the melodies but the symphony shows the maturity of the composer who, at 21, was a master. In particular, the Sarabande exhibits a wonderful depth of feeling while the Bourree, Pizzicato and Finale are delightfully inventive.

The Temporal Variations is another early work (1936) that was performed but not published by ... Read More:
