Like the last record, only even denser, angrier, and possibly better. In the span of just over an hour, they barrage you with swirling samples, funky bass, dance beats, and grade-A turntable work. A lot of the credit goes to the Bomb Squad, whose production makes this thing rock harder than most nominal "rock" record. They also make great use of sampling - for instance, check the raging adrenaline rush of the classic "Welcome to the Terrordome," which samples the Temptations' "Psychedelic Shack," "Pollywanacraka," which contains snatches of AWB's hit "Schoolboy Crush" and some innovative vocal samples, the funky "Anti-N***** Machine," which begins with a chaotic slew of samples, and the several sound-collage tracks spread across the album, which ... let's just forget about all the fun that is flavor of love. forget about the roast of flavor flav. this is the real deal. chuck d has a sound all his own that no one else can touch. i rolled up to a local place with this on and people asked who the new artist was, all i could do was shake my head and break the news to them. this is what rap should be and needs to be again. you can play this over and over it doesnt lose it's appeal. so if 911 IS a joke in your town and you just can't truss it, quit tryin to find your old cassettes and buy this boooooyyyyyeeeeeee.

This one has the reputation as being Public Enemy's first in a line of albums with decreasing relevance and power. Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but I could hardly disagree more. While it's true that the lyrical content of this album is a bit less confrontational than it's two immediate predecessors, the difference is very slight. The actual music itself, however, has taken a major step forward.
Now that's not to say that Chuck D (far and away the best MC rap has ever seen), has turned soft. His targets are various and unfortunate, from slave owners to the New York Post (in his own words the "worst piece of paper on the East coast") to African American booze hounds to the entire state of Arizona!
Like I said before, the instrumental ... Read More:

Yo! Bum Rush the Show-
Formerly a loose congregate of college-radio DJs and party promoters in the Long Island area, `Spectrum City' became Public Enemy when Def Jam exec Rick Rubin allegedly badgered Chuck D into accepting a record deal; Chuck insisted that Flav come along, and hip-hop history was begun. Along with producers Bill Stephney and Hank Shocklee, Chuck and company considered themselves hip-hop's answer to the Clash: The first album as almost a punk effort, more about rhythm & noise rather than rhythm & blues. The LP opens with "You're Gonna Get Yours", Chuck and Flav's ode to the Oldsmobile 98: "Smoke is coming, when I burn/ rubber when my wheels turn; tinted windows so super-bad; looking like the car the Green Hornet had." The riskiest cut may have ... Read More:

This soundtrack brings back memories of when I first went to college. It was often compared to the Boomerang soundtrack which came out at the same time. I enjoyed both soundtracks but I tend to favor this one a bit more (though as far as the movies go, I actually like Boomerang better).
The other reviews have already covered the songs so let me end this by saying that if you want to know what R & B/Hip-Hop in the early 90's was like, this is a good place to check it out!

This c.d. is so underrated that it's dumbfounding... if you're a fan of classic hip hop or p.e. you need to have this album or at least download the songs... the best songs include "give it up, what side you on, bedlam 13:13, so whatcha gonna do" and many others... i recommend this album to everyone... it's really good.

When i first heard this album i was a little let down but now think its actually a really good album. Theres a lot of gems though out this track but some songs are boring and need to be skipped. Cant Hold Us Back and Rise are classic tracks. The title track is also really dope. I wish Paris would have done more rapping on this album, i think hes only on 8 of the tracks and has one solo track. Make it Hardcore is a killer. I really liked Plastic Nation being that i have the same views on plastic surgery. But make sure you get the classics from these artists before you get this.

I must admit, as an avid PE fan, I was somewhat disappointed by this album, at FIRST, but like Flav said quite a long time ago, "Don't Believe The Hype". I was fooled by some of the reviewers remarks that said this was a "letdown" from their previous stuff, but NO true artists sound stays exactly the same, and after listening to this album after NOT hearing the previous three albums, it sounds a whole lot better.
Instead of measuring this up against the first three albums, we should hold this one on it's own merit. Fresh cuts like "Tie Goes to The Runner", "I Gotta Do What I Gotta Do" and "Air Hoodlum", plus some nices remixes of "Megablast", "You Gonna get Yours" and more combined with the news bytes from the Ted Koppels' of the times make this a must have just for the vibe of the times ...
