Beautiful Future

by: Primal Scream

Release Date July 29, 2008
Whiel primal scream have been able to make the best and some of the more strange records in the last 15-20 years, this is for once a very strong one. Indeed, while almost all previous efforts contained some extremely strong tracks with some that were less extraordinary, this si a much more even effort. The sound is also very different: this time it is more poppy while the music itself is a mixture of their more electronic music à la XTRMNTR and the rock of Don't Give...This succeeds in creating their strongest effort to date and it is up there with their best two records in my opinion, anmely XTRMNTR and Don't Give as well as parts of Scteamadelica (I know most people think it is a work of genius but it has dated badly and I did not like it ... Screamadelica

by: Primal Scream

Release Date October 08, 1991
This was one of the best albums of 1991, at least as rated by the critics. The music certainly represents a breathtaking array of influences, styles and textures that is well enough integrated for a cohesive musical statement.

Movin' On Up is a soulful slab of rock with lovely female vocals, whilst the next two are psychedelic trance-dance pieces. Slip Inside This House being more straight-forward tribal dance whilst Don't Fight It Feel It is a trippy, trancey number with quirky burbling synths.

Higher Than The Sun is a slower number with atmospheric soundscapes whilst Inner Flight is even slower and more ambient with some dreamy vocals. Come Together is a mid tempo rhythmic track built around a male vocal speech ... Read More:

Riot City Blues

by: Primal Scream

Release Date August 22, 2006
Have you ever had a friend, acquaintance or colleague confess to you that he used to play in a professional band and then hand you a copy of the album, so that when you play it you understand why a music career was not pursued? Well, this is one of those albums. I'm not sure what it is about Primal Scream that every other album strikes me as a stinker but they do have a propensity for erratic work product. While this effort is at least inoffensive, it is also uninspiring and ho hum. It's a great party tape so long as you are at the party with the artists, if you knows what I means. Listen to the sound samples thoughtfully provided by amazon, the whole album is no better or worse, just longer. I'd rate this one star but I like Primal Scream ... Read More:

Vanishing Point

by: Primal Scream

Release Date July 15, 1997
Vanishing Point is a great disc. As with all Primal Scream releases they wear their influences broadly and with distinct strokes. The background synthesized sounds are very much from a Hawkwind listening party in 1973. The beats totally modern. The guitars as crafted and to the point as ever. The vocals weave that Primal Scream druggy scene as perfectly as ever. They are in top form here, but I have a taste for all of their music in all it's forms, so at the top really does mean "at the top" of their game. I like the way they go from trippy 70s stylings to Satanic Majesties Request drum taps and finger pickings to the echoed and beat happy club sounds that are all the best of the Scream. Disonance is not a bad thing and when the Primal Scream uses this late ... Read More:

CD-Charts Music : XTRMNTR

XTRMNTR

by: Primal Scream

Release Date May 02, 2000
For the first four songs on XTRMNTR (or Extermintor, for those who prefer using vowels), Primal Scream captures liquid adrenaline in a bottle, shakes it up, and lets it spray out of the speakers. After that, it's anyone's guess. Its quality spikes as severely as the levels readout must skip when this album is played. The album is dragged down by an unnecessary repeat/remix of "Swastika Eyes" and a couple that should have been left off entirely. The lesser tracks aren't simply mediocre filler, but honestly bad songs, namely the lame hip-hop verses of "Pills" and the meandering, flat beat of "Insect Royalty." Even the good ones usually have a problem inherent in all thunderous electronica/house-fused music--they go on too long. At seven minutes plus, "Swastika Eyes" ... Read More:

Give Out But Don't Give Up

by: Primal Scream

Release Date April 12, 1994
I admit I have a unique way of selecting music for my extensive library. I choose to mine older selections that in my opinion have had a chance to survive the test of time. The best toons are the ones that are timeless. So I must say that this collection is a classic. I am sure that the original pimple faced crowd that bashed primalscream for daring to deviate from their origins does not appreciate this cd. This is just plain great rock, funk, and soul. Enjoy!

Echo Dek

by: Primal Scream

Release Date November 24, 1998
Only dub fans like myself can truly appreciate the greatness of this album. This is a similar project to Mad Professor's dub deconstruction of Massive Attack's Protection. This is actually a superior effort to No Protection. The mastermind on Echo Dek is Adrian Sherwood (the prolific dubmaster behind African Head Charge, Creation Rebel, and Dub Syndicate), not the Scream. He takes the original Vanishing Point tracks and guts them, leaves a select few vocal snippets, amps up the drums and bass... in true DUB style. Highlights include "Last Train" (version of the classic "Trainspotting"), and the thunderous "Wise Blood" featuring vocals by the mighty Prince Far I. In most cases, the new versions improve on the originals. No disrespect to Primal Scream fans, but they ... Read More:

Primal Scream

by: Primal Scream

Release Date August 12, 1996
Primal Scream has always seemed to drastically change their style with each new album. Personally,I could care less about the "Sonic Groovy Flower Power" (or whatever it's called) and "Screamedelica" albums, so it is quite a shock to go back and find this hidden classic in between them. This disc is nothing less than straight-forward rock & roll, with a pronounced MC5/Detroit influence. (it didn't escape my attention that the producer is listed as "Sister Anne"---a blatant tribute to the Five---and that the song "Gimme Gimme Teenage Head" is essentially a rewrite of "Kick Out the Jams.") Usually, I tend to skip ballads and just play the rockers twice, but this is one of the few discs in my collections where the slow songs are just as good as the faster numbers. I don't think there is anything ... Read More:
