I waited long and hard for this re-release, and I'm happy I was patient. The 5.1 mix is beautiful, and the stereo disc sounds great, but this is no news for PT fans used to Steven Wilson's wizardry.
The album is great, better than Stupid Dream in my opinion. The songs have more personality and identity and the album has enough variety to keep things interesting.
More akin to Stupid Dream than to In Absentia, but still showing sings of evolution in that direction.
I like comparing this version of Shesmovedon with the one in Deadwing. It's hard to improve a great song, leave that to Steven Wilson.

Man, I kinda got this album on a whim, and boy am I glad I did. From the opening riff to the powerful, moving closer, there is not a dull moment. The heavier stuff reminds me a little of Opeth and Dream Theater...maybe a little Tool in there even though I don't really listen to them. There are some beautiful haunting/atmospheric passages too, which add a great deal of dimension to the album. I'm not familiar with Porcupine Tree's back catalog, but from what I gather, this might be the most accessible album of theirs at the time of its release. I definitely recommend it to people who like good rock and progressive music.

Than you are hear because you are looking for bands that remind you of Pink Floyd. As there will be no band to take their place, Porcupine Tree is a great place to start. Their mix of keyboards and guitar licks are just what the doctor ordered. The vocals are far from Roger's yelps but you will become addicted to Wilson's voice in the same way. If Roger Waters plays second to your love of David Gilmore, than RPWL may be more to your liking. Also check out a band called Riverside.

I discovered PT through a friend about 2 years ago. Since then, I have bought everything they have done since the "Lightbulb Sun" LP. I have also seen then perform live. BUY THIS CD !! Excellent song writing, and one of the world's greatest drummers, Gavin Harrison. If you like this one, also check out "In Absentia", my favorite of all Porcupine Tree LPs.

This is one of those rare EPs that is almost better than the album that inspired it. It is comprised of 4 songs that were leftovers from the "Fear of a Blank Planet" album, and after listening you wonder how they could have been left off at all.
Heavy, dark, progressive and beautifully layered with soundscapes. One of PT's best. Highly recommended.

Among Porcupine Tree albums, "Stupid Dream" has to be up near the top.
It is a melodic masterpiece, showcasing Steven Wilson's penchant for superior songwriting and production.
"Piano Lessons" and "Pure Narcotic" showcase an almost rock/pop sort of sensibility that gives the album a strange sense of optimism, despite the somewhat pessimistic or dark lyrics that accompany most of the album's songs.
"Stranger by the Minute" is a delightful track with a frolicking lead guitar, offset by strange lyrics about the ghosts of killers and children.
The only thing really missing from this album is the crunch that the band began to use as an accent on their 2002 masterpiece "In Absentia," then brought to the fore on opus "Deadwing."

Having recently heard P.T.(thanks to Pandora)I discovered to my delight that there is a vast and credible Progressive movement in existance.Yes and Pink Floyd could/should have taken their music in this direction instead of selling out to the pop genre. This is an excellant CD for anyone who has not heard P.T. before. Progressive rock is still alive and todays artists rival the great ones that started it all back in the day.

Here we have the first Porcupine Tree to feature contributions from keyboard player Richard Barbieri and bassist Colin Edwin. Both would eventually become full time members of the band. Here they appear on one track each. Actually Barbieri also participated in "Phase 4" of the previous disc "Voyage 34" as well. To me this is the first truly great 5 star album from Porcupine Tree. Stephen Wilson has a clear idea of what he wants to get across with no filler to be found. The album is about 75% instrumental with Wilson's dreamy vocals weaving their way into the material here and there. The album somewhat continues the LSD tripping theme of "Voyage 34" especially the first few tracks that feature more voiceovers similar to the previous disc. Some great songs are to be found here ... Let me start by saying that this album is one of my favorite albums of all time (even though I'm biased because almost all Porcupine Tree albums are my favorites). It has perfect flow from start to finish, easily going between heavy and soft--many times within the same song. The music is hard to describe as they contain influences of a number of different bands, including: Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Talk Talk, Opeth, etc.. all culminating into a unique sound of their own.
The surround mix is incredible and it even won an award for best surround mix of 2005. The sonic clarity over cd is also impressive. Separation between channels is very good but also very well connected as instruments flow between different speakers to very good effect--take the title track Deadwing's soft ... Read More:

Porcupine Tree is one of the finest bands around and this cd, recorded during the Lightbulb Sun tour, delivers in a big way. First off the material for the recording was culled from a Polish radio broadcast with a specially invited studio audience and features the bulk of the "Lightbulb Sun" cd (recently re-released in a gorgeous remastered form/5.1 surround) as well as tracks from "Stupid Dream" and "Signify", for me three of their better recordings (although serious kudos have to go to "In Absentia", "Deadwing" and "Fear Of A Blank Planet" all fine recordings of their own especially thanks to Gavin Harrison's absolutely phenomenal drum work). The recording itself is crystalline and a big improvement on the sound rendered on "Coma Devine".
If you're seeking a fine example of what Porcupine ... Read More:
