After basically ignoring THE WALL for years once I decided that I had no patience with Roger Waters' whining all the way to the bank, I've come to the conclusion that the listener does not have to buy in to Waters' monomaniacal view of his lot in life to be bowled over by the songs and how they're presented. "Comfortably Numb," "Mother," "Goodbye Blue Sky" and "Hey You" still sound great after all these years, and kudos to David Gilmour, Nick Mason and the late Richard Wright--as well as Waters himself-- for giving them musical heft. Sonically, the album is magnificent. So, a great package, but as far as concept albums about how lousy it is to be a rock star go, I'll take WISH YOU WERE HERE over this any day. Or, for that matter, Syd Barrett's ... Read More:

I have never bothered to listen to this Hybrid SACD in stereo.
On my first listening I was blown away with surround sound where there are many instances where the the 3D sonic events take this album to a newer high. The most notable for me is "On the Run" where the footsteps criss cross not just from side to side but from back to front, and where a plane or something crashes it travels from rear left to front right. There are numerous instances throughout the album where surround sound has added a dimension which I am sure Messrs Waters, Gilmore and Wright would have wished was available when they orinally recorded this title.
The second thing I noticed was the sound was much clearer and there were things I had never heard on my cd version. ... Read More:

Let's get all the nitpicking out of the way. Firstly, it's a bit funny this compilation is called "Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd," when Echoes is presented in an abridged form. This isn't the only song that suffers from being cut short, as the classic Shine On You Crazy Diamond also suffers from unnecessary edits. Breaking apart the songs from Dark Side of the Moon gets rid of the notion of the album being one 42 minute long song. Original segways of songs into other songs are replaced with new ones to fit the track listing of this album.
So why did I give this compilation five stars? Well, given the few flaws stated above, this is still a really fantastic collection of Floyd songs. Every era of the band is represented, and you're given the early ... Read More:

This review is a personal tribute for Richard Wright who died this week, for all of us Floyd fans a very sad moment.
Since Wish You Were Here, Wright did not composed music for any album of the band; on Animals and The Wall he just graced the music with his excellent and unique Floydian keyboards; he was not on The Final Cut; on A Momentary Lapse of Reason he was a session musician due to some legal details and just played some here and some there; which leave us with The Division Bell, his major return to full composing status: Cluster One, What Do You Want from Me, Marooned, Wearing the Inside Out, Keep Talking. All of them, not only beautiful and elegant songs, but Floydian.
I'm very amused when I read some reviews that claim that this is 'soft ... Read More:

Another strange album from Pink Floyd. Not that it's that bad, by any means, it's just that they still don't know what sound they want. This is Pink Floyd's peak as a progressive band, but Pink Floyd are not known for being progressive now, are they? They're known for being spacey and out there. This isn't that out there. Well, the title track definetly is. Written in collaboration with Ron Geesin, a avantgarde composer. The suite is fairly impressive to be perfectly honest, and it does paint the way for future epics, but it loses momentum after a while. The main theme is terrific, very epic sounding and paves the way for The Wall even. Gilmour contributes more solos on this album, which is fine by me, I love me some Gilmour solos. Breast Milky, the second part, is kinda cheesy but ... Read More:

This cd is truelly this band's best, I wish they had migrated to Africa's BushBush after this, the world would have been a better Place.
Bridges burning, mudman, the gold its in the, wots the deal, absolutely curtains all songs are among my favorites as they out shine the ugly Side of the moon album and the atrocious animals and the wall/
