I will watch or listen to anything with Gerard Butler! Of course The Phantom of the Opera is wonderful, but I love the soundtrack and movie to hear him. I even watched 300 just to see the body. Listen to this all the time.

I agree with most of the reviews - the London staging is the very best of the English language versions of 'Les Miserables'. Forget the New York (Broadway) production, much too polished (sanitized ?). It pales in comparison. The American version benefits from greater sophistication but at the cost of the original book.
HOWEVER, for the first production of this musical, go to the recording on the 'Anthology' (French) label, issued by FGL Productions (the complete 1980 version). It has the cast of the premier, with 'guest appearances' by some big names in yesterday's French popular music, Michel Sardou, Salvatore Adamo, and Michel Delpech. And a list of superb actor-sings, like Maurice Barrier (Valjean), Rose Laurens (Fantine), ... Read More:

Love Sarah Brightman, however, this CD doesn't have one song on it in English. While I enjoy a mixture of her other CDs that are bilingual, this entire CD consists of songs in other languages I don't understand. Very disappointing. Played it thru only once. Probably won't play it again. No speakers on my computer so I can't "test run" these. My own fault, I guess.

I cannot get enough of this soundtrack. I listen to this almost daily and when I am not listening to it, I am humming or whistling or down right belting out the tunes of this most beloved musical of all time!
I was in highschool when the musical debuted with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in 1986. I have been familiar with Weber's music and the voices tied to the characters that became an overnight phenomenon world wide.
However, I did not have an opportunity to see the stage show (until just this year) so was delighted when they had made a movie of it. Thank you, Joel Schumacker! The movie tied the music and the story line together and I have been hooked since. So it was for obvious reasons why I purchased the movie soundtrack. ... Read More:

During a recent visit, my three year-old granddaughter asked me what my record player was. I took her to my collection of 331/3 LPs and selected Peter, Paul and Mommy - the 1969 vinyl edition. "Oh,Grannie," she said, "a big DVD!" She loved "Momma's Taking Me to The Zoo Tomorrow" and "Puff the Magic Dragon." I had forgotten all the great songs that were on this album.,,,hadn't played it for years. We really enjoyed it together. So I purchased this CD just for her...she lives in the UK...and I'm always looking for good ways to keep in touch.

Beautiful soundtrack... this is all of the music that the composer, Carl Davis, created for the movie. There are 24 tracks on this disc and the music is so lovely. It really takes you back into the movie, especially track 14, Pemberley, and track 15, Darcy Returns. Melvyn Tan's performances on the pianoforte are beautiful. It is also a chance to hear more complete selections rather than just bits and pieces used in the movie. Play this in the background when you can't take the time to watch the movie.
Other reviewers commented on the fact that many of the selections from the movie that they wanted to hear once again were not on the soundtrack. The music pieces they mention are what Mr. Davis refers to as source music, anything played or sung by ... Read More:

I liked this album and the movie. It may not be the best movie ever made, nor was this the best album ever made; however being a fan of the artists who worked on the project I'm a fan. 100%. Yes the movie was cheesy I'll give it that, but who cares.
Personally, I got a kick out of Frampton's face when I asked him to sign my copy of the movie!!! (And YES he's still touring and still KICKS MAJOR @$$ on the guitar!!! The hall of fame honor was long over due!)
But hey, what do I know.... : ) Sure there are people bound to disagree, lets just agree to disagree!

I once was associated with a community theater production of "Sunday In The Park With George," my favorite musical. Unlike most community theaters, this one was well-funded, with money to burn, and burn money they did. In attempting to replicate the production values of the original Broadway show, their comprehensive carbon copy was the most expensive play they had ever put on in their 150 year history. It was DOA, and a flop. Because copying isn't art. Because they could sing it, but they couldn't hear it. What makes "Sunday In The Park" so thrilling is that it soars on songs that plumb (with great good humor and compassion), the demands that art makes on artists. As the title of this review, taken from the Talking Heads, suggests, you either get it, or you don't. Most ... Read More:
