I learned of this CD while I was watching the Dave Letterman Show. At 89 years old, Pete Seeger is still vibrant and youthful. This CD features some old songs and some new ones. Sometimes, Pete Seeger plays music; sometimes he talks; sometimes he talks to a musical background; other times he lets someone else do the singing.
I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who would like to explore the music of Pete Seeger, but doesn't know where to start. It is a most fitting capstone that brings together many aspects of the man's life and work; his gentle spirit; and his fiesty sense of justice.
The CD is also quite an achievement. In my collection of over 1,000 classical, jazz and folk recordings, I have only a few that ... Read More:

An excellent sample of Pete Seeger's varied career in music. Nice mix of the social activist to songs seemingly for kids (but with the undertone of the societal commentary). Enjoyde it immensely.

As a child growing up in New York City I sat on the deck of Pete Seeger's boat "The Clearwater" and listened to him sing and play banjo to us (city kids). The memories of those sumer days and that wonderful music is still strong for me more than 30 years later. When I purchased this CD for my seven month old son two weeks ago I was curious to see if I would enjoy the music as much now as I did as a child. Happily my son LOVES this CD, and so do my husband and I. The songs are playful and melodic in a way that most children's music these days can't quite pull off. I recommend this CD highly for the whole family.

This album taps directly into my childhood, like "mac & cheese". My father must have played it ten-thousand times on a little phonograph that he'd build himself, with a balsa-wood tone arm and washers on the back to give it the ounce of weight it needed for the stereo cartridge he'd bought. Ten-thousand times is conservative. Maybe fifty-thousand. I can lip-sync not just the songs, but the intros to the songs.
Seeger is an inspiration. He is a national treasure. I hear his voice, and I start to cry. I hear this album, and it moves me afresh to go out and get involved. He was an amazing poet, civil rights leader, and patriot, and this is his best work.

what can you say about pete seeger? the man and his music are inseparable. he has not only been singing and performing since before world war II, he has spent decades using music as a peaceful method to bring about change. he has fought for the working man at a time when unions were badly needed and cleaned up the hudson river at a time when that was badly needed. i read recently that he was nominated for the 2007 nobel peace prize and i couldn't think of anyone more deserving. the album is classic pete, wonderful to listen to, thought provoking, and in the way that is very pete seeger, listening to it is more like having a friend picking in your living room than listening to a cd.

I have just bought this album for my grandson who is four and for my daughter who is...well, never mind. She grew up on it and we still sing Abiyoyo whenever we are cooking or just for the heck of it. I am so glad that I found it.

This album is just as good as first two volumes. The artists involved truly have a respect for the originals. If you like this music then I recommend you check out these great collections of folk music by various artists: "O Brother Where Art Thou?" "Ain't No Grave" and "Cold Mountain".

One of the last true American Patriots in a dying society. A very talented man and true American. Pity that most people don't know who he is because of what out government did to him. Like JFK but they didn't have to kill him because he wasn't wealthy.
Release Date May 19, 1998
Most of the songs are a really nice representation of all the things Seeger supported. It's more tilted toward organized labor than peace. Some of the songs are less than professional versions of the songs for which he is known - I guess it is because the recordings are quite old (nearing 50 years!). If you like folk music, it's a nice buy, but get it at a cheap price because it isn't something you'll listen to over and over again.
