One Chance

by: Paul Potts

Release Date September 18, 2007
Wow!!! A number of months ago someone emailed me the link to a YouTube video that showed Paul Potts' first appearance on "Britain's Got Talent" I was captivated as soon as he started singing, then got goosebumps and then got teary eyed. I thought to myself: "What the.....?? This is Opera, dude.....you hate opera!" Or at least I thought did...or was supposed to. No "manly man" would like Opera!! Paul Potts has changed my mind.

As I've grown older, I've embraced a broader expanse of musical genres. But until now Opera was boring. Until now. Gotta quit writing now and go put Paul Potts back on. Oh yeah, I purchased two additional Opera samplers from Amazon.

All Shook Up (2005 Original Broadway Cast) (Featuring the Songs of Elvis Presley)

Release Date May 31, 2005
All Shook Up is a lot of fun. The music can't be beat because it's all Elvis and the singing is super. This Broadway cast - all the ladies are great belters and Cheyenne Jackson as Chad has a big range. I can't wait to see the show.

Paul Potts [United Kingdom]: One Chance

from: Sony Bmg Europe

Release Date July 31, 2007
I first heard of Paul Potts on YouTube and like many others, thought it was a fairytale ending to a beautiful story. Paul conquered bullies, sadness, and shyness and won over our hearts with his amazing voice and talent. He brought Opera to those that didn't understand it or appreciate it. I bought this CD not only for myself, but for Paul. He made me smile, cry, and laugh. Success couldn't have happened to a nicer person. Thank you Paul...

Giovanni Gabrieli: Music For San Rocco

from: Archiv Produktion

Release Date November 19, 1996
This CDs sound quality is superb and highlights the antiphonal quality of the works.

This CD displays the range of Gabrieli, who is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated composers. There are pieces for every mood. From the triumphal "Jubilate Deo," to the dynamic "Magnificat," this collection does not disappoint. My favorite track has to be "Suscipe, Clementissime Deus." It starts off as very prayerful, introspective and pleading and blossoms into an outpouring of fervor toward the end when the singers exclaim, "Tu solus sanctus, tu solus Dominus, to solus altissimus, Jesu Christe."

The other reviews here are spot on and i agree! This is a very special disc.
May i also add that it was awarded Record of the Year 1990 by ABC-FM Stereo
here in Australia and Gramophone (UK) 1990 Early Music Award.
I also suggest looking at abcshop dot com dot au for a superb selection of High quality classical music most of which is produced in Oz and not seen in huge quantities overseas. Amazon does have a few also. Type in ABC Classics
and browse through the selection.

This really a fine recording. I bought my copy one sunny Saturday morning in Melbourne in around 1993. I saw it on the shelf and I got my wallet out. I was completely blown away by the music on this disc. Rigatti was a real discovery for me.

The use of high falsettists in the chorus and solos is particularly effective and gives us a real insight into the sounds of music in Venice in the early 17th century.

I cannot recommend this marvellous recording too highly, it is clearly one of the best made by the Gabrieli Consort, Choir & Players.

Great playing from the strings, cornetti and tromboni.

Cambridge Singers - A Cappella (Collegium)

from: Collegium

Release Date
John Rutter has long been established as a fine choral conductor as well as an intelligent programmer and this CD further substantiates his preeminent position. For this album Rutter has selected a wide ranging repertoire of songs written for unaccompanied chorus, a tradition that dates back to the plainsongs of the old churches.

Opening with Benjamin Britten's completely enchanting setting of WH Auden's long poem 'Hymn to St. Cecilia' is marked by fluid rhythmic changes, perfect enunciation, and glorious choral singing. This is followed by a set of Brahms songs for female voices alone, Schumann's four songs for full chorus, a lovely performance of 'Lay a garland' by the little known RL Pearsall (1795 - 1856), and the Delius 'The splendour falls on castle walls'. ...
