Looking for a good soundtrack to reading vampire novels or playing either incarnation of World of Darkness's Vampire RPGs? Look no further than Nox Arcana's "Transylvania". The cuts are lush and evocative, redolent of the dark, of decadance, of mystery and horror and the preternatural, of cruel, soulless yet elegent creatures of the night. This blend of professional-quality sound-effects, well-scored music, and just-the-right-length original verses makes the perfect musical backdrop for a Hallowe'en party, ghost story reading or vampire RPG session

Fairy tales have been sanitized and scrubbed up through the centuries. Once upon a time, they were dark and even terrifying stories. And obviously the gothic band Nox Arcana knows this fact very very well, or they wouldn't have created the darkly enticing "Grimm Tales" -- their layered, dramatic orchestral music extends in both directions, capturing both the ethereal part of fairy tales, and the horrific and frighteneing parts that lurk in the shadows.
It opens with Nox Arcana's signature intro: a twinkling little solo, followed by a creaky echoey voice which is probably supposed to be a creepy old hag. "Welcome children! Gather round... to ye Grimm Tales of whispered lore. As twilight falls, dark shadows rise... to haunt the night ... Read More:

Wow. Wow. Wow. I am Enedelia's 13 year old daughter. I was stupid enough not to get this album as my first Nox Arcana CD. I was lucky to get the remastered version of this CD. It sounds stunning! I can't tell you how impressed I was by this album. This whole album reminded me somewhat of the story of Dark Shadows. From the first few seconds of the first track, I felt in a completely different realm.
Legend- The sound of wind starts this piece. Some low pitched gentle and elegant strings then enter. Joseph Vargo speaks in this piece with the following narration: "Along a dark, forsaken road, there stands a stark and grim abode. An old manor house looms black and tall, to cast a grave and deathly pall. Beyond the ancient-wrought iron ... Read More:

What else can be said about Nox Arcana that has not been yet. I think this may be my new favorite cd by the Kings of Haunting Soundtracks.
This tribute to Poe hits the mark in every way, and should be a part of every Halloween buffs collection.
Nox Arcana manages to mix spooky, romantic and entertaining whilst staying on target with the subject. The tracks with the haunting violins absolutely create the perfect imagery.

Before I start on this beautiful album, I have just one question.
Why, oh why does everyone listen to the overplayed Christmas music that you hear in the shopping malls? There has to be a reason why people would like such a thing. It's sad to listen to overplayed Christmas music, when you know that there is no substance in any of the songs you hear. Why do people listen to the overplayed Christmas music at the malls, while at the same time, ignoring Nox Arcana's "Winter's Knight" album? That is a veryy sad world we live in.
This album by Nox Arcana is the most beautiful Christmas album I've ever heard. When I hear this, the music shows me how the world would be when we play this wonderful album. We wouldn't have to deal with overplayed ... Read More:

I bought this item as a gift for someone who is an avid player of Dungenos and Dragons. It was right up their alley. I was pleasantly surprised by this music. They composers have made a delightlful blend of classical and Gothic music, that sounds like a track from a classic horror movie. This is not something I would normally listen to, but I found it rather enjoyable. I bought this along with a selection from Midnight Syndicate, which is a similar style, and equally enjoyable.

Honestly, I would've never known about Nox Arcana if it weren't for the day I found this album while surfing the `Net. Then again, it's a good thing I did, because if the rest of the duo's albums are nearly as inspired and inspiring as this one is, then I just might get my hands on those as well.
Though the main purpose of Nox Arcana's 2006 album Blood of the Dragon is to provide background music for such medieval fantasy tabletop RPGs as Dungeons & Dragons and White Wolf's Swords of Sorcery/Scarred Lands, it must be said that even on its own merit, this album presents unto its audience a pretty impressive story. You see, in the land of Draconia, "...dragons ruled the skies, and kingdoms rose and fell at the end of a sword." Such is Joseph ... Read More:
