Les Travailleurs de la Mer: Ancient Songs from a Small Island

from: Harmonia Mundi Fr.

Release Date March 08, 2005
We ordered this CD after hearing excerpts from it on NPR. We find it an enchanting blend of vocal and instrumental music, part medieval, part Celtic folk. Listening to it envelopes us in the beauty and simplicity of an unspoiled natural landscape timeless in its spiritual purity. It's an antidote to the ego-obsessed ratrace of the present and reminds us of the essential human goodness that music can express.

Renaissance Music: from the Courts of Mantua and Ferrara [Circa 1500]

from: Chandos

Release Date November 18, 1992
This CD is one of the best of the frottola genre that I have ever heard and it is no wonder that it won an award. This CD features probably the best soprano in early music - Emily Van Evera. Her performance of Tromboncino's "Ostinato vo' seguire" is the best version I have ever heard. The instrumentalists are also excellent. It influenced me to explore the frottola and now it has become the main focus of my musical activities. This gem gets my very highest recommendation.
