Loveless

This may be, along with possibly David Bowie's "Station to Station" and Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night," the most terrifying masterpiece I have ever had the pleasure of being confronted with. Yes, what the fans say is true in my opinion, that this is a densely-layered, coherent thought layed out among eleven shorter (though no lesser) ones; and, to be accurate I am indeed a fan myself. Although I don't pretend to have heard all the incarnations "popular" music over the past 30 years, I do know this: Loveless, like any earnest and accurate expression of existence, is no less meaningless today than it was seventeen years ago. The songwriting here is impeccable, and the musical style is definitive of the "shoegaze" movement. This is the album that everybody and anybody who considers their music shoegaze will be compared to.

This EP is great, don't get me wrong. But if you buy this EP expecting it to sound like Isn't Anything, or Loveless you're very much mistaken. This EP was released before MBV lost their minds (in a good way) and started playing around with the guitar sounds they would come to be known by. The songs are very well written, but they're more pop-rock and only shoegaze in spirit.

Glider

This EP (like most MBV EPs) was written and released prior to either of their albums. On Glider you can hear the band begin to develop their technique for out of this world "shoegaze" guitar tones, as opposed to a lot of their earlier EPs. If you're already a fan of Isn't Anything and Loveless this would be a good place to go next.
